A new Dungeons & Dragons game is leaving the adventuring to someone else. Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern puts players in charge of an inn where heroes eat, drink, prepare for quests, and return with whatever they manage to bring home.
Developed by Homo Ludens and published by Dotemu, the management sim was revealed during the Future Games Show at Gamescom 2026. Instead of building a party and heading into combat, players will grow a tavern that supports the adventurers passing through Faerûn.

Players start with a small establishment that can be expanded, decorated, and reorganized as the business grows. Running it involves hiring staff, managing busy periods, serving guests, and building a menu of food and drinks.
New recipes and brewed drinks give players more options for serving the different adventurers who arrive. Serving guests successfully increases the tavern's earnings and reputation, while players can also upgrade, decorate, and optimize the establishment as it grows.
The game also gives players control over how the tavern develops visually, with decorations reflecting different cultures, characters, and adventures from the wider Dungeons & Dragons setting.

The heroes staying at the tavern are not just customers. Players can send them across Faerûn to search for rare ingredients, magical curiosities, and treasure that can be brought back and used as the tavern grows.
Their success is influenced by dice rolls, bringing a core Dungeons & Dragons mechanic into the management side of the game. Luck, skill, and fate determine what the adventurers bring back.
This keeps questing connected to the main management loop without putting the player directly in control of the adventuring party.
Homo Ludens is also bringing recognizable characters from the wider Dungeons & Dragons universe into the tavern alongside new visitors with their own stories. The game returns to Faerûn, the same wider Forgotten Realms setting used by games such as Baldur's Gate 3.
Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern is a single-player game and is currently confirmed for PC via Steam in early 2027.
