Studio Reset has revealed The Eventide, a single-player supernatural mystery game from developers who previously worked on Mass Effect, Dragon Age and The Long Dark. The game is currently in early development for PC and can now be added to Steam wishlists.
The Eventide takes place in a neon-lit Canadian city where paranormal incidents remain hidden from the public. Players manage a secret agency that investigates hauntings, unexplained signals and other events connected to nearby planes of existence.
Players will guide the Eventide Agency as it deals with a growing list of strange incidents across the city. Each day, they select a case and assign two investigators from an expanding group of agents.
The choice of investigators affects what players discover during the case. Each agent has different skills, beliefs and experiences, so they may notice separate details or understand the same evidence in different ways.
Studio Reset calls this system Parallax Deduction. Players must compare the agents’ findings, study the context around each clue and decide what happened before completing a final case report.
Evelyn “Eve” Atwood is a cryptozoologist who studies supernatural events through biology, physical evidence and scientific systems. Sam “Brass” Hingle is a former detective who understands people, motives and inconsistencies in witness statements.
The third revealed character is Kira, whose full role remains hidden. She can sense psychic and emotional traces that other investigators may miss.
More agents will be added to the roster as players progress. Their skills will include studying ancient writing, looking into other planes of existence and using technology to examine unusual energy.
Investigations will take players through apartment buildings, offices, alleys, underground bars, libraries and abandoned radio stations. Cases may involve spirits trapped inside ordinary objects, creatures from folklore or apparitions that do not understand what they have become.
Players explore these locations using fixed-camera 3D environments. Clues found by both investigators are added to a shared notebook before players use a word-based deduction system to complete each report.
Solving a case can open new locations and leads across the city. The game will also deal with mature subjects including death, grief, illness and the aftermath of violence
Studio Reset was founded by Kaelin Lavallee, Kris Schoneberg and Francis Lacuna. The team has experience across BioWare, Hinterland, Inflexion Games and Timbre Games, with credits including Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Anthem and The Long Dark.
The Eventide is being developed in Unreal Engine 5. Studio Reset has not announced a release date or confirmed versions for consoles, leaving PC as the only platform revealed so far.
