Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Swings Into a Brand New Day

July 29, 2026·3 min read

Peter Parker has another reason to return to New York, and this time there is no mission chain or token grind standing in the way. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Update 1.005.000 adds two free suits for Peter, including a fresh red-and-blue design inspired by Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The patch also brings a cel-shaded costume based on MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, improved image quality for PS5 Pro, and a Power Saver option across PS5 consoles. It is a small update rather than new story content, but the timing gives returning players a simple excuse to swing through the city again.

Two New Suits Give Peter Different Looks

The Fresh Start suit keeps Peter close to the classic Spider-Man image without copying the Advanced Suit he already wears through most of the game. Its better red-and-blue colours, lighter details, and familiar shape make it feel like a natural option for players who prefer a more traditional design.

Its link to Spider-Man: Brand New Day makes the costume's release at this time easy to understand. The update does not add movie missions, characters, or locations, so the connection stays simple. Players get the new look inside Insomniac's version of New York without the game pretending to be a full film crossover.

Peter's second suit moves in the opposite direction by using the bold art style of MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Thick outlines, stronger colours, and a more animated shape make it stand out from the realistic materials used across most of the suit menu. It should be especially useful for Photo Mode players who want images that look closer to comic art.

PS5 Pro Gets a Sharper New York

Update 1.005.000 adds enhanced PSSR support for PS5 Pro, improving the way the console rebuilds the final image during play. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 already pushes a huge amount of detail across streets, windows, crowds, traffic, and distant buildings, so easier image reconstruction should be easier to notice during fast movement.

Web-swinging is where the upgrade should have the strongest effect. Peter and Miles move quickly through dense areas filled with small signs, reflections, railings, and moving cars, all of which can lose sharpness when the camera changes direction. Better PSSR support should help those details hold together without giving up smooth performance.

PS5 players also receive a Power Saver mode that lowers energy use while the game is running. It is not designed for players chasing the sharpest picture or highest frame rate, but it adds another choice without changing the normal display options. Anyone happy with the existing modes can continue using them as before.

The Update Arrives at a Useful Time

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has not received the large story expansion many players expected after launch, and this patch does not change that. Insomniac has moved its main attention toward Marvel's Wolverine, leaving smaller technical updates and free suits to keep Peter and Miles active between larger releases.

That smaller approach works better here because both costumes connect with Marvel projects arriving around the same period. One gives players a new film-inspired look, while the other points toward PlayStation's upcoming fighting game. Neither needs a long explanation, and both fit a game where changing suits has always been part of the fun.

Once the patch is installed, the new costumes appear in Peter's suit menu without extra challenges or purchases. Returning players can try them immediately, test the PS5 Pro improvements, and spend another evening above New York. For a game that has already told its main story, that is enough to make the update useful.
