Heartworm comes to consoles on October 1
September 24, 2026·3 min read
Heartworm brings its retro survival horror to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, PS4, Xbox One and Switch on October 1 after its 2025 PC launch.
Retro-inspired survival horror game Heartworm is coming to consoles on October 1, 2026. Publisher DreadXP and developer Vincent Adinolfi have confirmed versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
The console release comes more than a year after Heartworm launched for PC through Steam on July 31, 2025. A new trailer has also been released alongside the console announcement.
Heartworm reaches two generations of consoles

The October launch will bring Heartworm to both current and previous-generation systems. PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 are joined by PS4, Xbox One and the original Switch, giving the game a much wider platform lineup than its existing PC release.
DreadXP has not announced any major content differences between the console editions and the PC version. The game remains a single-player survival horror experience inspired by the genre's late-1990s era, particularly games such as Silent Hill and Resident Evil.
The PC version currently sells for $14.99 on Steam. Pricing for the upcoming console releases has not yet been confirmed.
A camera is Sam's main weapon

Heartworm follows Sam, who is struggling with the death of her grandfather. While searching online for a way to reconnect with him, she discovers a mysterious forum that leads her to a supposedly supernatural house in the mountains.
What follows mixes exploration, puzzles and limited combat across environments shaped by Sam's memories and grief. Instead of relying on conventional firearms, Sam uses a camera to defend herself from the threats she encounters.
The game switches between fixed camera angles and an over-the-shoulder perspective. Players can use a modern control scheme or choose classic tank controls, while optional pixelation and other visual effects can make the presentation resemble games from the early 3D console era.
The story can lead to multiple endings
DreadXP estimates that a playthrough of Heartworm takes around four to six hours. The game includes multiple endings, giving players reasons to revisit Sam's journey after completing it once.
Its presentation combines pre-rendered and in-game cutscenes with an original soundtrack and a strong focus on psychological horror rather than constant combat. Puzzles and exploration make up a large part of the experience as Sam moves deeper into the mystery surrounding the house.
Heartworm is already available on PC through Steam. The PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, PS4, Xbox One and Switch versions will all launch on October 1.
