How to Fish Reaches 1 Million Players in Two Days, With More Content Coming

August 26, 2026·2 min read

How to Fish reached one million players within two days of launching on Steam. Developer Dazed Games announced the milestone after the co-op fishing game quickly became one of the platform's biggest new releases of August.

The studio also confirmed that it plans to keep expanding the game after launch. More content is coming alongside further bug fixes, although Dazed Games has not yet detailed what the additional content will include.

Dazed Games announced the milestone in a short Steam update after How to Fish launched on August 20.

"WE HIT 1 MILLION FISHERMEN! THANK YOU ALL!" the developers wrote.

The player milestone follows a strong start for the game on Steam. How to Fish also attracted hundreds of thousands of concurrent players during its opening weekend, turning the small co-op release into one of Steam's breakout games of the month.

The game supports solo play and online co-op. Players begin stranded on an island after crashing their boat and earn money by catching and selling fish. Better equipment eventually opens the way to new islands, bosses, rare fish, weapons, trick shots, and other increasingly unusual ways to make money.

The studio used the milestone announcement to answer one of the obvious questions following the game's sudden growth.

"Yes, we'll be adding more content!" Dazed Games said.

Dazed Games did not detail what the additional content will include. The studio has only confirmed that more content and further bug fixes are planned.

Post-launch updates are already expanding multiplayer

Dazed Games has been releasing patches quickly since launch. Patch 1.0.4 increased lobby support from four to eight players while also adjusting the Pufferfish and Whale and fixing several multiplayer and achievement problems.

Patch 1.0.5 followed with private lobbies, the ability to change session type through server settings, additional quality-of-life options, and more fixes.

Patch 1.0.6 followed with further save-file fixes, including a check before loading saves and changes to how the game handles saving when the application crashes.
