Kena: Scars of Kosmora Delayed to 2027

October 2, 2026·3 min read

Kena: Scars of Kosmora has been delayed from 2026 to 2027 as Ember Lab gives the larger sequel more development time. PS5 and PC remain confirmed.

Ember Lab has delayed Kena: Scars of Kosmora into 2027, moving the sequel out of its previously announced 2026 release window.

The studio says it needs more time to polish a game that is being built on a much larger scale than Kena: Bridge of Spirits. No more specific 2027 release date has been announced, while PS5 and PC remain the confirmed platforms.

Game writer Thomas Varga and Ember Lab COO Josh Grier confirmed the delay on October 1, explaining that the team has remained focused on bringing Scars of Kosmora to completion since its reveal in February.

According to the studio, the goal is to surpass the quality of Bridge of Spirits while expanding substantially on the size and scope of Kena's next adventure. Moving the release into 2027 gives the team additional time to polish that broader experience rather than forcing the game into its original window.

Ember Lab has not pointed to a particular technical problem or development setback behind the delay. It has also not narrowed the new timing beyond 2027.

Although the sequel is larger, Ember Lab is not turning Kena into a conventional open-world game. The studio still describes Scars of Kosmora as a character-focused linear adventure, but with more depth and room to explore away from the main path. Kosmora is divided across multiple regions, with four cultures historically connected to different guiding elements.

Alchemystic Temples will play a major role in the adventure, acting as dungeon-like challenges built around Kosmora's forgotten approach to Spirit Guiding. Ember Lab says completing them will provide transformative rewards that help propel Kena's adventure, although it has not detailed exactly what those rewards include.

The larger environment also introduces a crystalline canine spirit that Kena can ride between areas. The companion is not limited to traversal, as Ember Lab says it will also assist during combat and help solve Alchemystic puzzles.

PS5 and PC versions remain planned for 2027

The delay has not changed the announced platform lineup. Kena: Scars of Kosmora will release physically and digitally on PS5, while the PC version will be available digitally. Ember Lab has not announced any additional platforms.

With the new window in place, the studio's focus is now on using the extra development time to finish and polish the expanded sequel before committing to a specific launch date.
