Nicolas Cage becomes a Call of Duty skin in what may be one last hurrah for goofy collaborations

June 25, 2026·3 min read
Nicolas Cage showing up in Call of Duty is funny because it feels both perfect and out of time. The actor fits the chaos of a loud summer update, but his arrival comes after months of complaints that the series had drifted too far from its military shooter roots.

Cage joins Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Call of Duty: Warzone through the Nick Cage Event Pass in Season 04 Reloaded. The update launches on June 25 with new content for Multiplayer, Zombies, Endgame, and Warzone, but the celebrity Operator is the part most players will talk about first.

Nick Cage leads the new Event Pass

The Nick Cage Event Pass has a free track and a premium track. The free rewards include the Executioner’s Duet melee weapon, the AN-94 assault rifle, Operator skins, XP tokens, and cosmetics.

The premium track unlocks the Nick Cage Operator and adds themed rewards such as weapon blueprints, an emote, a finishing move, a HUD theme, and the “Unlimited” Nick Cage Operator skin. It is a full crossover push, not a small store tease.

Cage makes more sense than many celebrity skins because his image already lives between action, horror, comedy, and self-aware weirdness. Dropping him into Call of Duty is not subtle, but it at least matches the over-the-top tone the update is chasing.

The timing makes this one feel different

Activision has spent the past year trying to answer complaints about skins that looked out of place in Call of Duty. Operators, Operator Skins, and weapons from Black Ops 6 will not carry forward into Black Ops 7, with the next game aiming for a look that fits its own setting.

That reset gave players a reason to think the series might pull back from the anything-goes store approach. Call of Duty had become crowded with strange crossovers, bright outfits, and characters that made some matches feel closer to a pop culture mashup than a military shooter.

He is not a cartoon mascot or a neon monster skin, but he is still Nicolas Cage running through Black Ops 7 with weapons and themed cosmetics. The joke works, even if the timing makes it feel like one last swing from the old playbook.

Call of Duty still likes the joke

Season 04 Reloaded is not only a celebrity bundle. Multiplayer gets new and returning maps, Zombies adds the Kowakujō round-based map, Endgame continues with Operation King Killer, and Warzone brings back Champion’s Quest.

There are also new weapons, events, ranked rewards, and a limited-time free trial for Multiplayer and Zombies. Players who do not care about Cage still have maps, modes, and progression to chase across the update.

That balance is why these collaborations keep happening. The serious players get a content drop, the store gets a headline item, and the internet gets a joke to argue over for a few days.

This may be the last version that gets a pass

Cage is an easy crossover to enjoy because he knows exactly what kind of joke he is part of. The problem is what comes after him.

Black Ops 7 needs to streamline the series’ visual identity, future bundles need to match that promise. Players will accept the odd stunt when it feels rare. They will push back again if every season turns into another parade of skins that belong in a different game.

Nicolas Cage may be a fun way to close this chapter of Call of Duty cosmetics. The harder test comes when the next store update has to decide whether the series is serious about pulling back.
