Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 return in Black Ops 7 Season 04

June 18, 2026·4 min read
Call of Duty fans who miss the older Black Ops games may enjoy some returning features in Season 04 of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Activision is not releasing full remasters of Call of Duty: Black Ops or Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, but the new season brings back classic maps and a mode built around older multiplayer rules.

The main addition is Black Ops Classic. It removes modern movement options and puts the focus back on cleaner gunfights, map control, and simple team play.

Black Ops Classic changes how matches play

Black Ops Classic removes sliding, wall jumping, and Omnimovement. Players will not be able to rely on movement tricks to get out of every fight. As a result, good positioning and accurate aim will be more important.

The mode also uses selected default loadouts and limited custom loadout options. That should make matches easier to read, especially for players who prefer the older style of Call of Duty multiplayer.

This is the closest Black Ops 7 has come to giving players a playlist that feels closer to the first two Black Ops games. It is still running inside a modern game, but the rules are meant to slow things down and make fights more direct.

Classic maps are back in the rotation

Season 04 is bringing back several maps tied to the older Black Ops era. Firing Range, Summit, Nuketown, Raid, and other familiar maps are part of the Black Ops Classic setup.

Firing Range and Summit were built around clear lanes and fast fights, while Raid became one of the most popular maps from Black Ops 2. Nuketown has returned many times, but it still works because it gives players constant action without much downtime. Older rules would not feel the same on every modern map, so using familiar layouts gives returning players a better chance to settle in quickly.

Vertigo and Launch return during the season

Two more map returns give Season 04 a stronger link to the first two Black Ops games. Vertigo from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has been remastered for Black Ops 7 with a new Japanese setting.

Launch from the original Call of Duty: Black Ops is also coming during the season. The map takes players back to a rocket facility with fights around the launch pad, fuel yard, and nearby industrial areas.

These maps are not being added as part of full game remasters. They are returning as new content inside Black Ops 7, which is the important difference for players expecting the original games to come back in full.

This is a nostalgia update, not a full comeback

Season 04 gives longtime players a clear reason to return, but it is not the same as getting the original Black Ops games rebuilt for modern platforms. The campaigns, Zombies modes, and full original multiplayer packages are not part of this update.

Still, Black Ops Classic is a useful test for Activision and Treyarch. A lot of players have said modern Call of Duty feels too busy, with too many systems, too much movement, and too many loadout layers.

This mode gives those players a better option without asking the whole game to change. If enough players continue playing it, Treyarch will have a better idea of how much the community still wants older-style multiplayer.

Season 04 Responds to Community Feedback

The loudest request from many longtime fans has been simple: make Call of Duty feel less crowded again. Black Ops Classic answers that request more directly than another weapon balance pass or cosmetic event.

The return of older maps also helps because players already understand how those spaces work. They know the lanes, power spots, and danger areas, which makes the mode feel familiar from the first match.

For anyone hoping Black Ops would return as a full remaster, Season 04 will not go that far. For players who just want a slower, clearer playlist with maps they remember, Black Ops 7 is giving them a real reason to jump back in.
