Sword of the Sea appears on Xbox Store, pointing to Series X|S port

October 26, 2026·3 min read

Sword of the Sea appears on the Xbox Store with Series X|S support, 4K and 60 FPS features, but Giant Squid has not announced a release date.

Sword of the Sea, one of 2025’s better-reviewed releases, appears to be heading to Xbox Series X|S after an official Microsoft Store page surfaced for Giant Squid’s atmospheric adventure.

The listing identifies Series X|S as a supported platform and allows players to wishlist the game. Giant Squid has not formally announced the port or provided a release date, so the store page currently offers the clearest evidence that an Xbox version is coming.

Microsoft’s product page identifies Giant Squid as the developer and lists Sword of the Sea as optimized for Xbox Series X|S. The listing also points to features including 4K resolution, 60 fps support, achievements and Xbox cloud saves.

A price, preorder option and Xbox Game Pass status are not currently confirmed. Some reports have pointed to October 29 as a possible release date, but that timing has not been publicly announced by Giant Squid or Microsoft.

The publisher information also differs from the existing versions. The Xbox page lists Fictions alongside Giant Squid, while the studio handled publishing for the current PC and PlayStation 5 releases.

Giant Squid had already discussed new ports

The Xbox appearance follows comments Giant Squid made earlier in 2026. When asked about a possible Xbox version, the studio said it had begun exploring additional porting opportunities.

At the time, Giant Squid also said it wanted to recover development costs before committing to more platforms. The Microsoft Store listing now suggests those discussions progressed into an actual Series X|S release.

Sword of the Sea originally released on August 19, 2025 for PlayStation 5 and PC. Players control the Wraith while travelling through the Necropolis and attempting to restore a lost ocean to the landscape.

Movement centers on the Hoversword, which combines ideas from surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding. Players build momentum across large stretches of sand and water while performing tricks and exploring environments designed around continuous movement.

The game was developed by Giant Squid, the studio behind ABZÛ and The Pathless. Its creative team includes art director Matt Nava and composer Austin Wintory.

Release details remain incomplete

The Xbox listing confirms that Sword of the Sea is being prepared for Series X|S, but several details remain unknown. There is still no official launch date, price, Game Pass confirmation or information about Xbox Play Anywhere support.

Until Giant Squid or Microsoft makes a formal announcement, the store page remains the strongest evidence that Sword of the Sea is expanding beyond its current PlayStation console release.
