Mouthwashing Launches on PS5, Xbox and Nintendo Switch on October 29

October 21, 2026·3 min read

Mouthwashing arrives on PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch on October 29, with Xbox Game Pass access and physical editions planned for PS5 and Switch.

Mouthwashing, the acclaimed psychological horror game from developer Wrong Organ, will launch on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on October 29, 2026. Publisher CRITICAL REFLEX confirmed the release date during the ID@Xbox and IGN Showcase on October 20, bringing the game to consoles more than two years after its PC debut.

The announcement also confirmed that Mouthwashing will be available through Xbox Game Pass on launch day. The release arrives just before Halloween, giving console players their first opportunity to experience the story-driven horror game.

Mouthwashing follows five crew members stranded aboard the Tulpar, a damaged space freighter drifting through deep space. With no hope of rescue, the crew must survive dwindling supplies, isolation and growing distrust.

The ship has enough power to last approximately six months, but its food supplies will run out much sooner. Captain Curly survives the disaster with devastating injuries, leaving him unable to speak or care for himself.

As tensions rise, players explore the freighter and gradually uncover what happened aboard the ship. The story unfolds through shifting perspectives, environmental details and encounters that blur the line between reality and psychological distress.

The game uses a distinctive low-poly visual style inspired by PlayStation 1-era horror. Its unsettling environments, distorted imagery and nonlinear storytelling place greater emphasis on psychological tension than traditional combat.

The October 29 release will bring Mouthwashing to both current-generation and previous-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles, alongside Nintendo Switch. Xbox players will also be able to access the game through Game Pass from launch. The release includes availability through the Microsoft Store on PC.

For players who prefer physical copies, Fangamer is preparing boxed editions for PS5 and Nintendo Switch. The retailer currently offers availability notifications, although a confirmed release date for the physical versions has not been announced.

CRITICAL REFLEX has not detailed any platform-specific graphical or performance enhancements for the console releases.

Mouthwashing reaches consoles after selling over 800,000 copies

Originally released on Steam on September 26, 2024, Mouthwashing became one of the most talked-about independent horror games of recent years. CRITICAL REFLEX has confirmed that the game has sold more than 800,000 copies on Steam. It also received multiple awards, including Best Narrative and Players' Choice at the Horror Game Awards.

The game has maintained an Overwhelmingly Positive rating among English-language Steam reviewers, reflecting its strong reception since launch. Its console debut will make the experience available to a wider audience, particularly PlayStation and Nintendo players who previously had no native version.

Mouthwashing launches digitally across the announced console platforms on October 29, with Xbox Game Pass access available on the same day.
