Thief Remastered Gets New Campaign From The Black Parade Creators on December 3
Thief Remastered arrives December 3 with a new campaign from The Black Parade's creators.
Nightdive Studios has confirmed that Thief: The Dark Project Remastered will launch on December 3, 2026, with a new story expansion developed by the creators of the fan-made campaign Thief: The Black Parade. Titled The Tarnished Mirror, the expansion introduces four original missions and will be included with the remaster at no additional cost.
The announcement came on November 2, when Nightdive Studios, Eidos-Montréal, and Atari revealed the release date alongside a new trailer. The campaign takes place between the events of Thief: The Dark Project and Thief II: The Metal Age, bringing new locations, enemies, and supernatural horror to Garrett's story.
The Black Parade creators are bringing their work into official Thief canon

The Tarnished Mirror is being developed by the team behind Thief: The Black Parade, a fan-made campaign released in 2023 for the original game.
The project became known within the Thief community for its ambitious missions, intricate environments, and approach to the series' stealth mechanics. Its creators are now working with Nightdive Studios and Eidos-Montréal on an official expansion.
The collaboration also marks a significant development for the franchise. Nightdive has confirmed that The Tarnished Mirror will become part of the established Thief storyline rather than remain a separate fan-made adventure.
The team is building the campaign using the remaster's updated technology, allowing for more elaborate environments while retaining the original game's focus on stealth and exploration.
Nightdive has also confirmed that Thief: The Dark Project Remastered will support player-created modifications, including The Black Parade. This means PC players will have access to both the original fan campaign and the team's new official work.
The Tarnished Mirror sends Garrett into a supernatural conspiracy

The four-mission expansion follows Garrett after the defeat of the Trickster in the original Thief: The Dark Project. With little money remaining, the master thief returns to smaller jobs while the City experiences political and ideological upheaval. His next assignment involves stealing an ancient Precursor hand-mirror.
However, the seemingly straightforward theft draws Garrett into a larger conspiracy involving unfamiliar factions and dangerous locations. The story eventually takes him through imprisonment, uneasy alliances, and an expedition into a submerged necropolis inspired by Lovecraftian horror.
Nightdive says the expansion will introduce additional enemies and environments that move beyond the familiar streets and buildings of the original game.
The developers are also using the remaster's technology to create larger, more detailed levels. These changes are intended to expand the possibilities for exploration without abandoning the stealth-focused gameplay that defined the series.
Thief Remastered includes the original game, Thief Gold, and the new expansion
Thief: The Dark Project Remastered will launch on December 3 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG. The remaster includes Looking Glass Studios' original 1998 game, along with the three additional missions and other improvements introduced in Thief Gold in 1999.
Nightdive has rebuilt the experience using its KEX Engine, adding improved textures, character models, animations, and support for resolutions up to 4K and frame rates up to 120 FPS. Modern controller support, a weapon and item selection wheel, and a mission selector are also included. The latter allows players to replay missions they have already completed.
The Standard Digital Edition costs $29.99 in the US and includes The Tarnished Mirror. A $34.99 Digital Deluxe Edition adds an art book, soundtrack, and preview of an upcoming Thief novelization.
Physical editions are also available to pre-order for PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2. These include Standard, Steelbook, and Deluxe Trapezoid Editions, with the latter recreating the unusual packaging of the original 1998 release.
Nintendo Switch owners will also be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 edition for free.
