Ubisoft says no new Assassin’s Creed remakes are currently in development

October 30, 2026·3 min read

Ubisoft confirms no new Assassin's Creed remakes are in development after Black Flag Resynced, with Codename Hexe and Invictus remaining priorities.

Ubisoft has clarified the future of Assassin’s Creed remakes following the release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, confirming that no other remake in the series is currently in active development.

The publisher shared the update on October 29 while outlining its wider plans for the franchise. Ubisoft is instead focusing development resources on previously announced projects and new entries exploring settings and stories that have not yet been fully revealed.

Black Flag Resynced showed how difficult remakes can be

Ubisoft described Black Flag Resynced as the first full remake in Assassin’s Creed history and said its development provided several lessons about revisiting older games. The project required Ubisoft Singapore to rebuild legacy systems while deciding which parts of the 2013 original should remain intact and which needed modern changes.

Balancing nostalgia with updated mechanics, visuals and quality-of-life improvements proved complicated. Ubisoft said changing too much risked losing the identity of the original, while changing too little would make a full remake harder to justify.

The publisher is pleased with how Resynced was received, but that response has not immediately led to another remake entering production. Ubisoft has now explicitly stated that no additional Assassin’s Creed remake is currently being developed.

More remakes are still possible later

Ubisoft is not ruling out revisiting older games in the future. The company said it remains interested in opportunities to bring classic entries back, meaning another remake could still happen once its current slate progresses further.

For now, however, there is no announced follow-up to Black Flag Resynced. Ubisoft is instead putting more attention on new settings and stories overseen by its recently established Assassin’s Creed Leadership Team.

Codename Hexe and Invictus remain in development

Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe continues to progress, although Ubisoft says more work is needed before the project is ready for another major public showing. The company currently plans to provide its next substantial update sometime in 2027.

Multiplayer project Codename Invictus also remains in development following an early private test involving hundreds of players. Ubisoft said feedback encouraged the team to strengthen recognizable Assassin’s Creed elements while keeping the competitive multiplayer structure.

Neither project currently has a firm release date. Their continued development shows where Ubisoft’s attention is going while additional remakes remain off the active production slate.

Assassin’s Creed turns 20 in 2027

The franchise will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2027, with Ubisoft preparing reveals, updates and community events throughout the year.

For now, Black Flag Resynced stands alone as Ubisoft’s completed remake project. More remakes remain possible, but the company’s current development focus is on new Assassin’s Creed experiences rather than rebuilding another older entry.
Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag

Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag begins in 1715, when pirates established a lawless republic in the Caribbean and ruled the land and seas. These outlaws paralyzed navies, halted international trade, and plundered vast fortunes. They threatened the power structures that ruled Europe
