WARDOGS Sales Reach 1.5 Million After 1.25 Million Launch-Day Milestone
WARDOGS sold 1.25 million copies within its first 24 hours in Steam Early Access, giving BULKHEAD's 100-player tactical shooter a huge opening despite queues, disconnects, and server problems that made its first day difficult for many players.
The audience continued growing after the sales announcement. SteamDB recorded 400,196 concurrent players two days after launch, while BULKHEAD spent its opening hours releasing fixes and gradually allowing players through overloaded login queues.
WARDOGS reached 1.25 million sales on its first day

BULKHEAD announced the 1.25 million milestone during the game's opening hours in Steam Early Access while apologizing to players for the launch delays. WARDOGS had already built a sizable audience before release. A pre-launch playtest reached more than 245,000 simultaneous Steam players, giving BULKHEAD an early indication that demand would be substantial.
BULKHEAD later said in its launch recap that sales had reached 1.5 million and were still climbing, making the earlier 1.25 million figure its first major launch-day milestone rather than the latest total.
The Early Access release went considerably higher. SteamDB recorded an all-time peak of 400,196 concurrent players on September 12. That figure measures concurrent Steam users rather than copies sold and should not be treated as another sales figure. The two numbers together show the scale of the launch without treating concurrency as another sales measurement.

WARDOGS is built around battles involving 100 players split between three teams, making stable online infrastructure particularly important to its launch.
Demand quickly became larger than the servers could comfortably handle. Players reported extended login queues and difficulties entering matches, while others were unexpectedly disconnected after getting into the game. BULKHEAD acknowledged those problems rather than treating them as isolated reports. Its first Launch Stability Hotfix specifically targeted failures to join servers, unexpected kicks, and long queue times.
The developer temporarily required everyone already logged in to restart the game and download the update. Once players returned, BULKHEAD began admitting them in controlled groups so it could monitor whether the servers remained stable as the population increased. At one point, the studio said 135,000 players had successfully made it through the queue and were playing while additional groups were still being admitted.

BULKHEAD says the worst queue problems have passed
BULKHEAD continued increasing server access throughout launch day while monitoring stability and posting updates for players still waiting. By the end of that process, the developer said the major queue issues appeared to have passed. It continued monitoring the servers afterward rather than declaring the underlying work finished.
The technical problems did not stop the player count from climbing. WARDOGS moved from a 245,118-player playtest peak to a 400,196-player Steam peak after release, while sales climbed from 1.25 million during its opening day to 1.5 million soon afterward.
With the game still in Early Access, BULKHEAD is now focused on supporting an audience that overwhelmed parts of its launch infrastructure during the opening hours.
