Linux players hoping to jump into WARDOGS when it enters Early Access on September 10 may have to wait. The uncertainty follows earlier Alpha and Beta tests that ran through Proton despite Linux never being officially supported.
Developer BULKHEAD says the 100-player tactical shooter does not currently have official Linux support and it cannot promise that Proton compatibility will be ready for launch. The studio is still working on the feature and has advised players who bought the game specifically for Linux to request a refund rather than assume it will work on day one.

BULKHEAD says WARDOGS does not officially support Linux, while work on Proton compatibility is still ongoing. No date has been announced for when that compatibility could be confirmed.
That means Linux players should not treat September 10 as a confirmed compatibility date, even though some earlier versions of the game were able to run through Proton.

Part of the uncertainty comes from previous WARDOGS Alpha and Beta tests, where some Linux players were able to run the game successfully.
BULKHEAD has since explained that those builds working through Linux was not intentional support. According to the studio, the earlier compatibility happened without Linux being officially supported.
The developer also acknowledged that communication from a community manager contributed to the confusion. Messages shared from the game's Discord gave some players the impression that Proton compatibility was already confirmed, even though BULKHEAD says its official position remained that the feature was still being worked on.
Rather than asking affected players to wait for a launch-day fix, BULKHEAD has told anyone who bought WARDOGS specifically for Linux compatibility to consider refunding it.
The studio said players should not keep their purchase based on the expectation that Proton will work on September 10. Proton compatibility remains a goal for BULKHEAD, but the studio has not announced when it will be officially supported. BULKHEAD says it will update players once compatibility can be officially confirmed.
