The Witcher: Monster Slayer returns through unofficial fan revival
October 7, 2026·3 min read
A community project has reconstructed much of Monster Slayer’s abandoned backend, restoring exploration, combat and quests for eligible Android players.
The Witcher: Monster Slayer is playable again more than three years after CD Projekt shut down the location-based mobile RPG. An unofficial fan project has reconstructed the game's server systems and released an early version that can run on supported Android devices.
The comeback is not an official CD Projekt release, and the original game has not returned to Google Play or Apple's App Store for new players. The Revival Project instead works with an existing copy of Monster Slayer and recreates services that disappeared when the official servers closed.
The revival restores most of Monster Slayer

Developer NatusAnima began the project as a proof of concept before other contributors helped rebuild more of the original backend. The current version targets Monster Slayer 1.1.116 and includes reconstructed systems covering player progression, the world, story content, tasks and weather.
The fan release can now restore much of the original experience, including exploration, combat and quests. The project's developer says almost every major feature is working, although the original shop and some multiplayer functions remain unavailable or limited.
Players still need an old Google Play account
Access comes with an important restriction because the project does not distribute CD Projekt's original game files. Android users need a Google account that previously downloaded The Witcher: Monster Slayer while it was officially available.
The Revival companion app can now handle the reconstructed server and map directly on a phone, removing the need to keep a PC connected while playing. It currently requires an ARM64 device running Android 11 or later, while iOS support has not been promised.
The project is also still at an early stage, so crashes and other problems remain possible. Its creator has continued releasing fixes as players test the restored game on different Android devices.
Monster Slayer originally shut down in 2023

Spokko, a former CD Projekt subsidiary, launched The Witcher: Monster Slayer for Android and iOS in July 2021. The augmented-reality RPG used players' real-world locations, time of day and weather conditions while letting them track and fight more than 100 creatures from The Witcher universe.
CD Projekt announced the game's shutdown in December 2022 as part of a wider restructuring. Distribution to new players ended on January 31, 2023, before access was completely disabled on June 30 of that year.
The company later merged Spokko into CD Projekt and shifted its mobile strategy toward working with external partners. The original Monster Slayer therefore remained inaccessible until fans began reconstructing its missing infrastructure.
The comeback remains entirely unofficial
CD Projekt has not announced plans to restore The Witcher: Monster Slayer itself or support the fan-made revival. The project's public repository makes clear that it is rebuilding the discontinued game's backend rather than relaunching the original commercial service.
For players who still have access to an eligible Android copy, however, the Revival Project has made the abandoned mobile game playable again. Development is continuing, with the community now testing the reconstructed version and reporting problems as its creators work toward a more stable release.
