Xbox October Update Adds Mythic Achievements and 1440p Remote Play

October 31, 2026·3 min read

Xbox's October 2026 update adds Mythic Achievements, 1440p Remote Play, customizable startup animations and improved storage management.

Microsoft has started rolling out its October 2026 Xbox console update, bringing Mythic Achievements to all players alongside customizable startup animations, improved save management and higher-quality Remote Play.

The update launched on October 28 as OS version 10.0.26100.9647 for Xbox consoles. Many of its features were previously tested through the Xbox Insider Program before moving into the public release.

Mythic Achievements are awarded when a player unlocks every achievement included in a game's original achievement list. Achievements added later through DLC or title updates are not required, and once Mythic status has been earned, subsequent add-ons cannot take it away.

The system also works retroactively, meaning eligible games completed before the update can automatically receive Mythic status, including older Xbox 360 titles. A new Gaming section on player profiles displays the total Mythic count, while individual achievement lists include progress bars showing how close each game is to completion.

Players can now sort achievement lists by game name, completion percentage, Gamerscore earned or total achievements unlocked. Add-on achievements are separately identified, making it easier to see which challenges actually count toward earning Mythic status.

Xbox consoles get more customization and storage controls

The October update also lets players select which startup animation appears when their console turns on. Options span several generations of Xbox hardware, while the existing setting for disabling startup-animation sound has been moved to the same menu.

Microsoft has expanded storage controls by allowing players to view, sort and delete local game saves that are not currently being used. Storage warning messages can now link directly to those controls, providing a faster way to clear unnecessary local files without removing active saves.

Home screen customization has been expanded as well. Players can remove games and apps from their recent activity row, while an immersive background option can temporarily fade dashboard elements to provide a clearer view of the selected background.

Remote Play now supports up to 1440p

Xbox Series X|S Remote Play can now stream at resolutions of up to 1440p with increased video bitrates on supported devices. Actual quality depends on the receiving device and network connection, while Microsoft recommends setting the console itself to 1440p or 4K UHD to take advantage of the improvement.

The update also introduces local search across areas including My games & apps, achievement lists and player profiles. Games recently accessed through Xbox Cloud Gaming can appear automatically in the library, while downloads may continue during cloud streaming when network conditions allow.

Microsoft has additionally addressed black-screen boots, unexpectedly paused downloads, Home refresh loops and performance issues affecting very large libraries. With Mythic Achievements now available beyond the Insider program, the October update gives completion-focused players a permanent new way to display games they have fully finished.
