Xbox September 2026 Update Fixes Share Button, Search and Queue Issues
Microsoft's latest Xbox console update focuses on maintenance, restoring Share button remapping and fixing problems with search and download management.
Microsoft has released its September 2026 Xbox console update, fixing several system bugs affecting controller customization, search and download management.
The public update went live on September 22 and focuses on maintenance rather than adding new console features. It restores Share button remapping in the Xbox Accessories app, fixes errors caused by certain searches and addresses crashes on the Manage queue page in My games & apps. Microsoft also included broader stability and performance improvements.
Players who customize their controllers through the Xbox Accessories app should once again be able to remap the Share button after an issue prevented the setting from working correctly.
The update does not add any new controller customization options. Instead, it restores the existing remapping feature for players who had been unable to change how the Share button behaves.
Microsoft has also fixed an issue where the Xbox search function could return an error when particular terms were entered. The company has not identified which searches triggered the problem or explained what caused the errors.
Manage queue crashes are also addressed
Another fix targets the Manage queue page inside My games & apps, which could crash while players were checking or organizing downloads and updates.
The page is used to track installations, see which games and apps are downloading and manage items waiting in the queue.
Microsoft also lists general stability and performance improvements in the September release. No individual changes are provided for that part of the update, so it is unclear which areas of the console software received additional work.
The September patch is available as a public console update
The September 22 release is a regular public Xbox system update rather than an Xbox Insider preview build. Players outside the Insider program can therefore receive the fixes without joining one of Microsoft's testing rings.
Xbox consoles with Keep my console up to date enabled can install system releases automatically. Players can also check manually by opening Profile & system > Settings > System > Updates.
