01Overview
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an open-world action-adventure game that gives players broad freedom to explore the kingdom of Hyrule. Link can travel across mountains, forests, deserts, villages, and ruins while using weapons, shields, bows, and armor found throughout the world. Unlike many earlier Zelda games, Breath of the Wild does not impose a strict order for completing its main objectives. Players can climb most surfaces, glide from high locations, ride horses, and use the Sheikah Slate’s abilities to manipulate objects, create bombs, freeze water, and interact with the environment. Exploration leads to more than 100 Shrines containing puzzles and combat challenges, while four Divine Beasts serve as major dungeon-like objectives connected to Hyrule’s Champions. Weapons gradually break through use, requiring Link to continually find replacements. Players gather ingredients by hunting, foraging, and defeating enemies, then cook meals and elixirs that restore health or provide temporary effects. Weather, temperature, stamina, and environmental hazards also influence exploration, with equipment and food helping Link survive extreme conditions and reach difficult areas.
