The Long Dark is a survival game developed by Hinterland Studio and set in the frozen Canadian wilderness after a geomagnetic disaster disrupts modern technology. Players must survive alone against extreme cold, hunger, exhaustion and hostile wildlife. Survival depends on exploring abandoned buildings and remote regions for food, clothing, tools and other supplies. Players must manage temperature, calories and fatigue while planning routes around changing weather and limited shelter. The game features both a narrative campaign and an open-ended Survival mode. There are no supernatural enemies or zombies, so most danger comes from the environment itself, including blizzards, thin ice, wolves and bears. Careful preparation and resource management are essential for surviving longer expeditions into the wilderness.
