Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV is a real-time strategy game that returns the series to large-scale battles, base building, resource control, and squad management. Players command one of four factions: the Blood Ravens Space Marines, Orks, Necrons, or the Adeptus Mechanicus, making their Dawn of War debut. Battles involve constructing bases, recruiting and upgrading units, capturing resource points, using cover and garrisoned buildings, and combining infantry, vehicles, and faction-specific abilities. An expanded Sync Kill system adds cinematic finishing moves during combat. The campaign returns to the planet Kronus and contains more than 70 missions spread across four faction-specific storylines that contribute to a larger narrative. Campaigns can be played solo or cooperatively and include non-linear decisions that influence how their stories develop. Outside the campaign, Skirmish provides standalone battles, while competitive multiplayer supports matches against other players. The returning Last Stand mode offers another replayable challenge alongside the traditional RTS modes. Across its factions, Dawn of War IV features more than 110 units and buildings, with research and upgrades providing further ways to develop armies during battle.
