GTA 6 gives Rockstar more reasons to shorten the PC wait
GTA 6 could arrive on PC only months after its console launch. Rockstar’s investment in FiveM, creators and GTA roleplay gives it more reason than ever to shorten the wait.
Grand Theft Auto VI may reach PC much sooner than expected. An October 13 report citing four anonymous industry sources says the PC version could arrive in the first three months of 2027, only a few months after the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S launch on November 19, 2026.
That would be a major change from GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, both of which kept PC players waiting much longer. Rockstar has not confirmed the new window, but PC now matters far more to the way GTA is played after launch.
Rockstar owns the team behind FiveM, while modders, server operators and roleplayers have kept GTA V active for years. Bringing GTA VI to PC early would put that community to work almost immediately instead of leaving it on the sidelines for another year.
Consoles can still come first without another long PC wait

Rockstar's last two major releases have shown why PC players expect to wait. Grand Theft Auto V launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, reached PS4 and Xbox One more than a year later, and did not arrive on PC until April 2015. Red Dead Redemption 2 followed consoles in October 2018 and PC in November 2019.
GTA 6 could follow the same console-first order without repeating those delays. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said in May that Rockstar wants to serve its core audience first, while denying that the release order had anything to do with Take-Two's marketing agreement with Sony.
PC also represents far more sales for Take-Two than it did a decade ago. Zelnick said NBA 2K drew roughly 5% of its sales from PC when he joined the company in 2007. For a major release today, he said PC can account for 45-50%.
An early 2027 PC launch would still give PS5 and Xbox Series X|S several months of exclusivity while bringing PC into the release cycle much sooner than GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2.
Rockstar is already investing in GTA creators
Rockstar has already invested directly in the people building custom GTA experiences on PC. In August 2023, it acquired Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM and RedM, after custom servers had become a major part of GTA V's PC community.
FiveM lets server owners add custom maps, vehicles, scripts and game modes to GTA V. Roleplay servers have since grown into police, medical, racing and drifting communities that keep people playing years after finishing the campaign.
Rockstar has continued investing in that community since buying Cfx.re. In January 2026, Cfx.re launched the Cfx Marketplace, where approved creators can sell scripts, maps, props and other server resources.
GTA Online has also added more creator tools of its own. The Mission Creator arrived in December 2025, letting players build and publish missions across supported platforms.
An early PC release for GTA 6 would bring the new game to experienced FiveM creators much sooner. Server teams could start learning the new map, vehicles and systems while the console launch is still recent instead of spending another year on GTA V.
Rockstar has not confirmed FiveM support for GTA 6, nor explained how custom servers would work with the sequel. PC access alone is not enough. Creators would still need the tools and permissions to build around it.
A shorter wait may cost Rockstar some second purchases

One thing Rockstar could lose with an early PC release is the second sale. A player with both a console and gaming PC may buy GTA 6 at launch rather than wait a year, then buy it again when the PC version arrives.
That happened under release schedules that kept GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 off PC for much longer, although Take-Two has never said how many customers actually bought either game twice.
A gap of only a few months makes waiting easier. Some players will still buy both versions to play immediately on console and move to PC later, but Rockstar would probably sacrifice some of that repeat business.
The trade is earlier access to everyone who intends to buy only on PC, including the creators and server operators Rockstar has spent the last few years investing in.
Red Dead Redemption 2 shows that waiting does not guarantee polish
An earlier PC launch only works if Rockstar has been building that version alongside the console game. Supporting different processors, graphics cards, drivers and storage setups takes far more testing than targeting two fixed console platforms.
A short gap does not necessarily mean Rockstar only gets a few months to do that work. PC development can run alongside PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for years before any version ships, although Rockstar has not said how far development has progressed.
Red Dead Redemption 2 also shows why waiting longer is no guarantee. Its PC version arrived more than a year after consoles in November 2019 and still needed immediate fixes for launcher failures, stalled preload decryption and other problems preventing people from playing.
For GTA 6, the important question is therefore not how many months separate the releases. It is whether Rockstar has the PC version far enough along to launch it properly in early 2027. A broken port would delay everything else the company could gain from bringing its PC community into Leonida sooner.
An earlier PC release would fit Rockstar's new GTA strategy
Rockstar used to treat PC as a later stop. GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 reached the platform long after their console launches, when selling another version of the same game was largely enough.
The company now owns Cfx.re, supports a marketplace for FiveM creators and has added more creation tools to GTA Online. PC players are not only another group waiting to buy GTA 6, they will build the servers, mods and communities that could keep people playing it for years.
Rockstar may give up some repeat purchases by shortening the gap, and an early release only makes sense if the port is ready. But if GTA 6 really arrives on PC in early 2027, the timing would fit the way Rockstar's relationship with PC has already changed.
Instead of bringing PC in after GTA 6 has been established for a year, Rockstar could make it part of the game's growth almost from the beginning.
