Bayonetta joins Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds as first free Year Two character

September 17, 2026·3 min read
SEGA has revealed Bayonetta as the first free character coming to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds during its second year of post-launch support. The Umbra Witch will arrive as a playable racer alongside her own vehicle, special emotes, and character-specific sounds.

SEGA has not announced a release date for the Bayonetta update, describing it only as “coming soon.” More details about Year Two will be revealed during the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds World Championship Finals and Year Two Showcase on October 9.

Bayonetta will join the roster with a new vehicle called the Butterfly Witch. Her free content update will also include special emotes and sounds based on the character.

The announcement continues CrossWorlds’ run of free characters from other SEGA series. Classic Sonic, Axel from Crazy Taxi, and Amigo from Samba de Amigo have already joined through free updates, expanding the roster outside the game’s original lineup.

Bayonetta is the first free racer specifically confirmed for Year Two. SEGA has not yet said which other characters will follow her or how frequently free additions will arrive during the second year.

Godzilla and Evangelion DLC also appeared in the new trailer

SEGA used the Bayonetta trailer to show more footage from the previously announced Godzilla and Evangelion crossover packs. Both are paid DLC planned as part of the game’s Year Two content.

The Godzilla Pack includes the Godzilla Escape course and vehicles based on Godzilla, King Ghidorah, and Mothra. The Evangelion Pack will add a Tokyo-III course alongside EVA-inspired vehicles and playable versions of Rei Ayanami and Asuka Shikinami Langley.

Those packs form part of a second season pass containing six DLC packs. SEGA announced its wider Year Two plans earlier in 2026, with Bayonetta now becoming the first free character attached to that next phase of support.

SEGA will reveal more Year Two content in October

SEGA has only revealed part of its Year Two lineup so far. The company says more information will be shared during the World Championship Finals and Year Two Showcase livestream on October 9.

CrossWorlds is approaching its first anniversary after launching in September 2025. The racer is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

Bayonetta does not yet have a confirmed arrival date. The October showcase should provide a clearer look at when she will join the roster and what other free and paid content SEGA has planned for the game’s second year.
