Dawn of War IV trailer gives Necrons the spotlight
July 21, 2026·3 min read
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV has a new Necron CGI trailer, and this one gives the ancient machines a far stronger showing than the earlier Adeptus Mechanicus reveal. Deep Silver and KING Art Games use the trailer to bring the Necrons back into focus in the war for Kronus.
The trailer is cinematic rather than gameplay, so it does not confirm balance, units or mission structure by itself. Still, it gives fans a clearer look at how Dawn of War IV is presenting one of its four launch factions before the RTS arrives on PC later this year.
Necrons take control of the trailer
The new trailer focuses on the Necrons as a terrifying force rather than a background threat. Their army advances with cold precision and cuts through the Adeptus Mechanicus, making the battle feel one-sided.
That gives the faction a stronger introduction. Necrons are meant to feel ancient, relentless and hard to stop, and the trailer shows that mood better than the earlier Adeptus Mechanicus CGI spot.
Adeptus Mechanicus still has a big role
The Adeptus Mechanicus are not being sidelined in Dawn of War IV. They are one of the game’s four playable launch factions, alongside Space Marines, Orks and Necrons.
Their inclusion is important because this is their Dawn of War debut as a full playable faction. The Mechanicus bring a different Imperium flavor to the series, built around cybernetic soldiers, religious technology and battlefield machinery.
Kronus returns as the main warzone
Dawn of War IV brings the series back to Kronus, the planet that longtime fans will remember from Dawn of War: Dark Crusade. The new story takes place years after that conflict, with the Blood Ravens and their allies facing a renewed Necron threat.
That setting gives the sequel a direct link to one of the most loved entries in the franchise. It also gives the Necrons a natural place in the story, since their history with Kronus already made them one of Dark Crusade’s defining threats.
Dawn of War IV goes back to RTS roots
KING Art Games has pitched Dawn of War IV as a return to the series’ mass-battle and base-building roots. Dawn of War III divided fans with its different structure and tone, so that return to classic RTS systems is a key part of the sequel’s appeal.
The new game is expected to include more than 70 campaign missions, a larger Sync Kill system and multiple playable factions. Its campaign is also being co-written by Black Library author John French.
PC launch is set for September
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV launches on September 17, 2026, for PC through Steam. Players who buy the Commander Edition will get access from September 14 through a three-day early unlock.
The Necron CGI trailer is available now through official channels. It does not replace gameplay footage, but it gives the faction more room to stand out before launch.
