Deltarune Chapter 5 Launches To Almost 300,000 Players As Chapter 6 Targets 2027
June 29, 2026·3 min read
Deltarune did not need a loud marketing push to take over Steam for a day. Chapter 5 arrived, fans rushed in, and the game shot to a new all-time peak of 291,816 concurrent players. For an episodic RPG that began as a strange surprise in 2018, that number shows how much trust Toby Fox has built with players who are willing to wait years for the next piece of the story.
Chapter 5 is available now as part of the full Deltarune release. Players who already own the game can update and continue, while new buyers get Chapters 1 through 5 together.
Chapter 5 turned into a Steam event
Deltarune’s new peak is not just a nice number for a chart. It shows how quickly the community still moves when a new chapter drops.
This game is made for players to discover together. Players want to hear the new music, fight the new bosses, find the weirdest jokes, and avoid spoilers before the internet starts pulling every scene apart.
You cannot fake that kind of reaction. Deltarune has long gaps between releases, but the fanbase does not drift away when it is important. It comes back all at once.
The release model helped the rush
Chapter 5 did not arrive as a separate purchase. It was added for players who already bought Deltarune, which made returning simple.
That is important for a chapter-based game. The less friction there is, the faster fans can jump in, finish the update, and join the wider conversation.
New players are also getting a stronger entry point now. Chapters 1 through 5 are available together, so someone starting late has a lot more story to play before waiting with everyone else.
Chapter 6 now has a target window
The next chapter is already the big question, and the answer is clearer than usual. The Steam FAQ says Chapter 6 is aiming for a 2027 release.
That is not a locked date, but it gives fans something better than silence. Deltarune’s schedule has always been unusual, so even a broad target helps set expectations.
The important thing is that the story has not stopped and is still moving forward. More chapters are planned as free updates, which means players who bought the game once are not being asked to restart the payment cycle every time the next piece arrives.
Deltarune still knows how to pull players back
The Steam peak works because it matches the feeling around the launch. Deltarune is not just another RPG update. Each chapter lands like a community puzzle, with fans chasing secrets, dialogue changes, music clues, and theory fuel as soon as it goes live.
That is why Chapter 5’s launch feels bigger than a normal content drop. It reminded players that the wait can still pay off.
Players can now look forward to Chapter 6. Deltarune has its biggest Steam moment behind it, a 2027 target ahead, and a fanbase that still treats every new chapter like an event.
