Deltarune Chapter 5 Is Out Right Now
June 25, 2026·4 min read
The waiting game around Deltarune has always been part patience, part detective work, and part fan frustration. Every newsletter, music tease, and tiny Toby Fox update gets pulled apart because fans know this series loves hiding important things in places that look harmless at first.
Deltarune Chapter 5 is available now as a free update for existing owners, bringing the game to Chapters 1 through 5 on PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PS4, and PS5.
The story finally has some momentum again
Chapter 5 lands just over a year after Chapters 3 and 4 pushed Deltarune into its paid release, which makes this update feel different from the older gaps. Chapter 2 arrived years after the first surprise drop, then players waited even longer for the next major release. This time, the follow-up does not feel like a distant promise.
That faster turnaround helps the game’s strange rhythm. Deltarune works best when players carry old questions into new rooms, wondering which joke is just a joke and which one will become important later. Chapter 5 gives the story room to move before the fandom has completely worn down every mystery from the last two chapters.
It also arrives at a smart point in the game’s larger arc. Chapters 3 and 4 made the paid version feel real. Chapter 5 now has to show that the release model can keep building without making players feel like they bought into another long silence.

The free update keeps the deal clean
Owners do not need to buy Chapter 5 separately. The update rolls into the existing game, and future chapters are still planned as free additions once they are ready.
That approach is important because Deltarune is still unfinished. Players are not buying a complete story yet, but the game is steadily becoming a larger RPG package with each update. For anyone who waited after Chapters 3 and 4, Chapter 5 makes the current version easier to recommend.
The chapter-based structure also gives new players a clean entry point. They can start with the free demo, move into the paid version, and catch up through five chapters without needing to follow years of old newsletters or fan theories to understand why the release is getting attention.
The best parts should stay unspoiled
The trailer gave fans a glimpse of Chapter 5 without spoiling the surprises. There are new fights, strange scenes, and the usual mix of silly and uneasy moments that makes Deltarune hard to talk about without accidentally saying too much.
Deltarune is not exciting because it adds another dungeon or another boss. It is exciting because a normal room can suddenly feel wrong, a small line can send players back through older chapters, and a goofy song title can become a clue before anyone knows what it means.
Toby Fox also teased music tied to Chapter 5 before release, including a piece that goes back years. Fans will do what they always do with that kind of detail: listen too closely, compare it to everything, and decide it may explain the entire game before lunch.
Chapter 6 is already taking shape
Chapter 5 is the story today, but development is already moving on to Chapter 6. Work has been progressing on cutscenes, NPC interactions, overworld gameplay, enemies, and boss patterns, with some staff potentially shifting toward Chapter 7 if things keep moving well.
That gives this release a better feeling than another isolated drop. Deltarune is still a long, odd project, but it no longer feels frozen between chapters.
Now that Chapter 5 is out, the community is already discussing and exploring it, and anyone who wants the jokes, fights, and strangers to land properly should play before the screenshots start doing the rounds.
