Wizards of the Coast has announced D&D Universes Beyond, a new crossover line that will bring outside franchises into Dungeons & Dragons. World of Warcraft will be the first setting to join the programme, with a major gameplay expansion launching on November 17, 2026.
D&D: World of Warcraft will let players build characters and campaigns set across Azeroth. The book is being developed with Blizzard Entertainment and includes rules for recreating the MMO’s classes, species, monsters, factions and dungeons at the table.
Universes Beyond will give Wizards of the Coast a way to release official D&D material based on other games and entertainment properties. The idea follows the crossover line already used by Magic: The Gathering, although the D&D releases will focus on tabletop role-playing rules and campaigns.
Wizards described the planned releases as carefully chosen collaborations designed to stay true to their original worlds. No other Universes Beyond settings have been confirmed, leaving World of Warcraft as the only announced entry for now.
The World of Warcraft expansion provides rules for all 13 classes from the MMO. It includes six new subclasses, three updated subclasses and more than 40 specialisations built around options from the D&D Player’s Handbook.
Players can also choose from 16 species, including Dracthyr, Draenei, Forsaken, Haranir, Pandaren, Tauren, Vulpera and Worgen. The book adds more than 60 spells, over 25 magic items and a new profession system for crafting equipment and preparing upgrades between adventures.
The expansion includes more than 50 monsters and 30 dungeon boss stat blocks. Seven familiar locations have been rebuilt for tabletop campaigns, including Deadmines, Scarlet Monastery, Shadowfang Keep, Dire Maul and Onyxia’s Lair.
A separate Icecrown Citadel map pack will include five double-sided maps and a digital adventure for characters from levels 16 to 20. The campaign takes players through the Lich King’s stronghold and ends at the Frozen Throne.
D&D: World of Warcraft will receive its full release on November 17. Master Tier D&D Beyond subscribers and customers buying through participating game stores can access it two weeks earlier on November 3.
The expansion will be sold in physical, digital and combined versions, with a standard cover, a game-store-exclusive alternate cover and a Collector’s Edition. Pre-order bonuses include digital dice, character sheet designs and a code for several World of Warcraft in-game items.
