Final Fantasy XIV Fixes Beastmaster Bug That Could Crash Servers
Square Enix has fixed an unusual Final Fantasy XIV bug involving the newly released Beastmaster job that could crash a server when a player disconnected at exactly the wrong moment.
The problem appeared almost immediately after Beastmaster became playable with Patch 7.56 on September 8. Square Enix responded with emergency maintenance and a server-side hotfix within a day, meaning players do not need to download another client update to receive the fix.
A healing familiar could trigger the server crash

The crash required a very specific combination of events involving Beastmaster and one of its familiars.
According to Square Enix, the problem could occur when a familiar used a weapon skill that restored its master's HP at the same moment the Beastmaster left the area because of a connection loss. If those conditions happened together, the server could crash.
That makes the bug considerably narrower than an issue triggered through ordinary Beastmaster combat. Players were not crashing servers simply by summoning familiars or using healing abilities during normal play.
Its potential impact was still unusually serious. Instead of only causing the affected player to disconnect or their game client to close, Square Enix's own hotfix notes say the failure could bring down the server involved.
The developer did not provide further technical details about why the healing interaction and connection loss produced the crash.
Square Enix fixed the problem within a day

Square Enix scheduled emergency maintenance across all Worlds shortly after Patch 7.56 arrived and deployed the Beastmaster correction at 11:55 p.m. PDT on September 8.
The subsequent update notice lists the server crash as addressed and states that no client update is required. The change was handled on Square Enix's side rather than requiring players to install another patch themselves.
For the specific combination involving a disconnect and a familiar restoring HP, Square Enix lists the problem as addressed.

Beastmaster had only just joined Final Fantasy XIV
The timing made the bug particularly noticeable because Beastmaster was one of the headline additions in Patch 7.56.
Beastmaster is a limited job built around forming pacts with different creatures and bringing those familiars into battle. Players can order them to use unique attacks through Tempered Release and draw on their abilities through other parts of the job's toolkit.
Patch 7.56 also introduced the Crucible of the Unbroken, a solo activity created specifically for Beastmaster. Players choose teams of familiars and work through boards containing different encounters before facing a boss, with team composition becoming more important as the challenges increase.
The update therefore put Beastmaster and its familiar systems into the hands of the wider player base for the first time on September 8. Less than a day later, Square Enix had already identified and patched one interaction capable of producing a much larger server failure.
