HeroQuest: Digital Edition Brings Five-Player Multiplayer and Quest Editor to Steam

November 3, 2026·2 min read

HeroQuest: Digital Edition brings four heroes, an optional player-controlled Zargon and custom quests to Steam in 2027.

HeroQuest: Digital Edition is bringing the classic tabletop dungeon crawler to Steam in 2027, complete with online multiplayer for up to five players and a quest editor for creating custom adventures.

Developed by Nomad Games and published by Balor Games, the officially licensed adaptation was announced on October 16. The studio, known for its digital adaptations of Talisman and Fury of Dracula, is bringing the board game's dice-based combat, four playable heroes, and dungeon master role to PC.

The digital adaptation retains the board game's four familiar heroes: the Barbarian, Dwarf, Elf, and Wizard. Online co-op allows four players to explore dungeons together, fight monsters, disarm traps, and collect treasure.

Each hero has a different role in combat. The Barbarian can break through enemy defenses, the Dwarf specializes in finding traps, the Wizard uses magic, and the Elf provides additional combat support. Battles follow a turn-based system where dice rolls determine the outcome of attacks.

A fifth player can also take the role of Zargon, the evil sorcerer who controls the dungeon's monsters and traps. Those who prefer playing alone can command all four heroes while the computer handles Zargon's forces.

The quest editor will support community-made adventures

Nomad Games is including a Quest Editor that allows players to create their own dungeons and missions. The feature goes beyond recreating the original board game's adventures by giving players tools to build new challenges.

The game will also feature built-in mod.io integration, allowing players to share their creations and download quests made by the community. Groups will therefore have access to additional adventures beyond the developer-created missions.

Closed beta planned ahead of the Steam launch

HeroQuest: Digital Edition is targeting a 2027 PC release, although an exact launch date has not been announced. A closed beta is planned, and interested players can sign up through Balor Games' official website to receive notifications about future playtest opportunities.

The game is also available on the wishlist on Steam. Nomad Games has not yet announced when the closed beta will begin.
