Enshrouded 1.0 Launches With Complete Map, Story Finale and Major Gameplay Updates

October 16, 2026·5 min read

Enshrouded leaves Early Access with its complete Embervale map, a story finale, expanded combat and new building tools. Version 1.0 also brings the survival RPG to PS5.

Enshrouded has officially left Steam Early Access after nearly three years, with developer Keen Games releasing version 1.0 on October 15, 2026. The full release opens the remaining areas of Embervale, concludes the current main storyline and introduces major changes to combat, character progression and building.

The update also marks the survival action RPG's debut on PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro. First released in Early Access in January 2024, Enshrouded has received eight major content updates. Version 1.0 brings those additions together with a new endgame region, more enemies and improvements aimed at both returning players and newcomers.

Version 1.0 opens the entire Embervale map, including previously inaccessible areas beyond the Veilwater Basin. The largest addition is Cinder's Cradle, a new northern biome featuring lava-filled wastelands, ancient ruins and floating islands.

The region introduces challenging enemies and new areas to explore above and below the Shroud. Players will also encounter guardians protecting the final mysteries of Embervale, making Cinder's Cradle an important destination for those approaching the endgame.

Existing regions have received additional content as well. The Springlands, Blackmire and Kindlewastes feature expanded areas, new quests and points of interest. Two new Hollow Halls are also available in the Albaneve Summits and Veilwater Basin.

The expanded world leads into the conclusion of the current main storyline. Players can uncover more about the Ancients and the origins of the Shroud before confronting a new threat. Keen Games has clarified that this ending does not mean Embervale's story is finished permanently. The Shroud remains a danger, leaving room for future content.

Level 50 cap and new spells change combat progression

The full release raises the maximum character level to 50, while fully upgraded equipment can now reach level 55. A new progression tier introduces stronger weapons, armor, crafting materials and spells for the challenges found in Cinder's Cradle.

Combat has also received substantial changes, particularly for magic-focused characters. Keen Games has added nine new spell types, including crowd-control abilities, area-of-effect attacks and summons.

Players can now summon skeletons to assist in combat, opening additional options for necromancy-focused builds. Wands have gained heavy attacks, improved aiming and additional movement-based abilities. All spells also have Eternal variants, allowing players to avoid managing limited spell charges once those versions become available.

The update introduces 37 new enemy types and variants across Embervale, including 14 belonging to the new Cinder's Cradle faction. Enemy behavior and pathfinding have been improved, while melee and ranged combat have received further adjustments.

Sparkworks gives builders tools to create their own adventures

One of the biggest additions outside combat is Sparkworks, a logic system that lets players create interactive structures and challenges within their worlds.

Using connected mechanisms and a visual editor, builders can create working switches, traps, puzzles and enemy encounters. These tools can be used to design custom dungeons, obstacle courses and escape rooms that can be shared through the game's Adventure Sharing feature.

Building has also become easier through the new Airborne Architect skill, which allows players to fly freely around their bases while constructing structures. Storage chests can now be upgraded without emptying or replacing them.

Keen Games has also improved the game's presentation with a new rendering system that increases the visible detail of distant terrain and buildings. Lighting, shadows and environmental atmosphere have been updated, while optimizations aim to reduce memory usage and improve performance.

Another notable addition is voice acting for major survivors and written lore entries in English, German and Mandarin Chinese. Players can listen to narrated lore notes while continuing to explore, with support for queuing multiple entries.

Existing saves remain supported as Enshrouded arrives on PS5

Players who purchased Enshrouded during Early Access receive version 1.0 as a free update. Existing characters and worlds remain compatible, although save files will be converted to a new format when loaded.

Keen Games has warned that existing characters will have their skill trees reset, requiring players to redistribute their points. The developer also recommends starting a new adventure for those who want to experience the revised early-game progression.

The opening regions now offer additional loot, improved exploration guidance and reworked crafting recipes designed to reduce unnecessary grinding.

On PlayStation 5, Enshrouded offers a Performance Mode targeting 60 FPS and a Quality Mode targeting 30 FPS. PS5 Pro includes a dedicated 60 FPS mode designed to combine higher visual quality with smoother performance. The console release also supports DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

Cooperative multiplayer supports up to 16 players on PC and eight on PS5. Cross-platform multiplayer is not available at launch, although Keen Games says it is working on adding the feature.

Enshrouded is available on Steam and PS5 for $39.99, with a 10% launch discount during its first 14 days. An Xbox Series X|S version is planned for spring 2027, while Keen Games intends to continue supporting the game with additional free and paid content.
