New PS5 Pulse Headsets Revealed With Improved Audio and Comfort

Sony has revealed a new generation of PlayStation wireless headsets, with the refreshed PlayStation Pulse launching this holiday season and the more advanced Pulse Edge following in early 2027.

Both models use larger planar magnetic drivers designed to deliver deeper bass while retaining the detailed, directional audio found in Sony's existing Pulse Elite headset. They also share a redesigned form factor aimed at improving comfort and portability, while Pulse Edge adds active noise cancellation, a detachable boom microphone, and additional controls for players looking for a higher-end option.

The new PlayStation Pulse uses four magnets in each planar magnetic driver, with Sony increasing the driver size compared with its previous headset designs.

Sony says the change produces fuller bass without losing the sound separation and spatial accuracy that planar magnetic technology is intended to provide. That includes making positional sounds such as footsteps and reloads easier to locate during games.

The standard headset also includes an integrated microphone with AI-enhanced noise rejection to reduce unwanted background sound during voice chat.

Sony has kept the controls relatively simple on this model. Built-in volume adjustment is included, but some of the more advanced controls and audio features are reserved for Pulse Edge.

Pulse Edge builds on the same basic audio design but doubles the magnet count to eight per planar driver.

Sony says the additional magnet volume is intended to deliver richer and deeper bass while maintaining the precision of the standard Pulse headset. The Edge model also adds active noise cancellation for reducing surrounding sound.

Its voice-chat setup is different as well. Pulse Edge comes with a detachable boom microphone, while a hidden microphone allows players to continue using voice chat when the boom is removed.

Other Edge-only additions include built-in game and chat balance controls on PS5, an audio and microphone jack, premium materials, and a carrying case. Sony has not announced how much either headset will cost, so it is not yet clear how large the price gap between the two models will be.

Sony has changed the physical design of both models alongside the audio upgrades, with a new form factor intended to improve comfort and durability.

The earcups can rotate so the headsets lie flat when they are not being worn, making them easier to store or carry. Both models will be available in White and Midnight Black.

PlayStation Link remains the main wireless connection, providing lossless, low-latency audio on PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC, and Mac. A headset can also remain connected to a supported Bluetooth device at the same time.

PlayStation Pulse will begin launching in select markets during the 2026 holiday season. Pulse Edge is scheduled for early 2027, with Sony planning to announce pricing, preorder dates, and exact launch timing closer to release.
