Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gets its biggest sales boost in years

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has seen a sharp sales increase following the theatrical release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Another 316,000 copies have been sold across PS5 and Steam since the film opened on July 31.

Those sales generated around $11 million in less than two weeks, while another 274,000 players accessed the game through PlayStation Plus. The renewed interest comes nearly three years after Insomniac Games released Spider-Man 2 on PS5 in October 2023.

PS5 sales have more than doubled

Alinea estimates that Spider-Man 2 is now selling around 15,000 copies per day on PS5. During a promotion in February, it was selling roughly 6,300 copies per day, making the latest increase its biggest sales boost in years.

Discounts also contributed to the increase, but interest around Spider-Man: Brand New Day drove most of the sales boost.

Spider-Man 2 reaches more players again

Alinea estimates lifetime sales of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 at 18.2 million copies across PS5 and PC, with around 92% sold on PS5. The firm also estimates that the game has generated more than $1.2 billion since launch.

Player numbers have risen alongside sales. Spider-Man 2 reached around one million daily active users over the latest weekend, its highest level since its October 2023 launch week.

Interest has increased across Insomniac’s other Spider-Man games as well. On Steam, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered reached around 16,000 concurrent players, while Spider-Man 2 climbed to roughly 12,000 during the film’s opening weekend.

The movie’s release has given Sony’s older Spider-Man games another burst of attention without a new game launching alongside it. Spider-Man 2 has also benefited from its availability through the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog.

Insomniac added the movie suit

Insomniac released an update shortly before Brand New Day reached cinemas. It added Peter Parker’s Fresh Start suit from the movie alongside another costume and PS5 Pro improvements.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is available on PS5 and PC. The PC version launched in January 2025, while PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members can access the game through the Game Catalog.
