Cloud Imperium Games has released a new trailer for Squadron 42 and opened an official Steam store page for its long-awaited single-player space adventure.
The listing gives the game a planned release window of Q2 2027, covering April through June. Players can now add Squadron 42 to their Steam wishlists, although an exact launch date and price have not been announced.
The new trailer, titled "The Oath," offers another look at the cinematic campaign, which takes place in the same universe as Star Citizen but is designed as a standalone experience.
Steam page confirms 150GB storage requirement and account linking

The newly published Steam listing provides several important details about the PC release, including its minimum system requirements.
According to the store page, Squadron 42 requires Windows 11, 16GB of RAM, and a DirectX 11.1-compatible graphics card with at least 8GB of VRAM. The minimum processor requirements list a quad-core Intel Core i7 based on Sandy Bridge or later, or an AMD processor based on Bulldozer or later.
Players will also need 150GB of available storage. The listing specifies DirectX 12 and a broadband internet connection, although Cloud Imperium has not explained the online requirements for its single-player campaign.
Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud, HDR, and Family Sharing are listed among the supported features. The game will also require a Roberts Space Industries account, with the option to link it to a Steam account. Cloud Imperium has not clarified how Steam access will work for existing backers who already own Squadron 42 through Roberts Space Industries.
For now, the store page only supports wishlisting. Preorders are not available, and the recommended hardware specifications have yet to be detailed.
The Oath trailer highlights space combat and Hollywood cast

The new promotional footage focuses on Squadron 42's military science-fiction setting, combining cinematic scenes with glimpses of its action.
Set in the year 2945, the game follows a rookie recruit joining the United Empire of Earth Navy during a galactic conflict. Players will serve aboard a military capital ship, interact with its crew, and undertake missions across space stations, frontier outposts, and other locations.
The campaign combines spacecraft combat with first-person action on foot. Cloud Imperium has also emphasized character interactions and decisions that affect the player's experience throughout the story. The trailer highlights the game's Hollywood cast, which includes Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, and Henry Cavill. Other confirmed performers include Andy Serkis, Ben Mendelsohn, and John Rhys-Davies.
Squadron 42 is directed by Chris Roberts, the creator of the Wing Commander series. The project has been in development for more than a decade and is separate from the persistent multiplayer experience of Star Citizen.
Q2 2027 release window follows delay from 2026
The Steam listing follows Cloud Imperium's decision to move Squadron 42 out of its previously announced 2026 release window. In an August update, Roberts explained that the studio had originally planned to launch the game during the fourth quarter of 2026, around the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo.
However, he said the company wanted to avoid competing for attention with Grand Theft Auto VI, which is scheduled for November 19. Roberts argued that Rockstar's release would dominate gaming coverage and content creators' attention, even though GTA 6 is not currently scheduled to launch on PC at the same time.
Cloud Imperium subsequently selected Q2 2027 as a more suitable window for Squadron 42. Roberts also announced plans to give selected original backers and longtime Star Citizen content creators hands-on access on October 9 and 10, with further release information expected around those sessions.
In his August letter, Roberts said a specific release date would be announced shortly afterward. For now, the new Steam page continues to list Q2 2027, with no exact launch date or pricing information available.
