The Witcher 3 Remastered Gives Xbox Digital Owners PC Access at No Extra Cost

Xbox players with a qualifying digital copy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be able to access the upcoming Remastered version on Windows PC at no additional cost when the free upgrade launches on September 29.

CD Projekt Red had already confirmed Xbox Play Anywhere support when The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered was revealed in August. The company has now clarified that supported digital Xbox ownership will also provide access to the PC version through the Microsoft Store, alongside play on Xbox Series X|S and compatible Xbox handhelds.

Xbox Play Anywhere lets players access supported digital games across Xbox consoles and Windows PCs through the same Microsoft account.

For The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered, players with a qualifying digital Xbox entitlement will be able to access the PC version through the Microsoft Store without purchasing another copy. Xbox also confirms that the Remastered version supports continued play between Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Xbox-supported handhelds.

Xbox Play Anywhere also carries saves, add-ons, and achievements across supported Xbox and Windows devices. The PC entitlement is provided through Microsoft's ecosystem and does not grant an additional copy through Steam, GOG, the Epic Games Store, or Battle.net.

Microsoft is separately testing a Disc-to-Digital system that can turn supported Xbox discs into digital entitlements, including Xbox Play Anywhere access where available, but The Witcher 3 has not been specifically confirmed for that program.

The Xbox Play Anywhere support comes on top of CD Projekt Red making The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered a free upgrade on qualifying platforms.

Existing owners on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store can upgrade without buying the game again when Remastered arrives on September 29. Nintendo Switch owners will also be able to claim the Nintendo Switch 2 version, while Remastered is launching separately through Battle.net.

All current owners of the original base game also have access to Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine at no additional cost, with both expansions included in Remastered. On Xbox, that expansion offer extends to Xbox One owners, even though the Remastered upgrade itself is available on Xbox Series X|S.
