The Witcher 3 Remastered PS5 Update Is Around 45GB Ahead of September 29 Launch

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered will require an approximately 45GB download on PlayStation 5 when CD Projekt Red's free upgrade for qualifying existing owners launches on September 29.

CD Projekt Red has also confirmed the worldwide unlock time and download sizes across the other supported platforms. The remaster will arrive simultaneously rather than using separate midnight launches for each region, and players will not be able to preload the update.

PS5 owners should expect an approximately 45GB download for the Remastered upgrade. Xbox Series X|S has the same estimated size, while the Steam version is also around 45GB but may vary depending on which language packs are installed.

Nintendo Switch 2 is slightly different because it receives a native version rather than the same update distributed on the other current-generation platforms. CD Projekt Red estimates that version at around 50GB. There is no preload for the Remastered update on existing-game platforms, so those downloads will only become available when the worldwide launch begins.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered goes live everywhere at 10am UTC on September 29. That means the upgrade becomes available at 3am PDT and 6am EDT in North America, 11am BST in the UK and 12pm CEST in Central Europe. Players in India can begin downloading at 3:30pm IST, while the launch falls at 7pm JST in Japan and 8pm AEST in eastern Australia.

The release covers PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, alongside the native Nintendo Switch 2 version. The Witcher 3 is also joining Battle.net with the Remastered release.

Players returning to an existing playthrough will not have to start again. CD Projekt Red says current The Witcher 3 save files remain compatible with Remastered. Skills and game settings will reset because of changes introduced by the upgrade, but players will be able to redistribute their skill points immediately.

Existing trophies and achievements also remain unlocked. Remastered shares its trophy and achievement lists with the current versions of the game rather than creating a separate set for returning players.

The approximately 45GB PS5 download covers considerably more than higher-resolution assets. CD Projekt Red has reworked environment, NPC and monster textures, foliage, lighting, rendering and ray tracing as part of the visual upgrade.

Combat receives new animations, additional finishers and an adaptive camera, while the character progression system has been rebuilt around a redesigned skill tree. Monster behavior, movement and traversal, witcher sign effects and Roach's handling have also been updated.

Other additions include transmogrification, cross-platform mod support, an expanded photo mode and changes to meditation. Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are included with Remastered, while owners of the base game have also been given access to both expansions at no additional cost.
