01Overview

Sid Meier's Civilization V is a turn-based 4X strategy game developed by Firaxis Games. Players lead a civilization from the ancient era into the future by founding cities, researching technologies, expanding borders and competing with rival nations. The game introduced a hex-based map and one-unit-per-tile combat system, making positioning more important than in earlier entries. Ranged units can attack from a distance, while city-states act as smaller independent powers that can become valuable allies. Players can pursue several victory paths, including domination, science, culture and diplomacy. Trade, religion, espionage and international politics become more important through the game’s expansions, while multiplayer allows several human players to compete across the same procedurally generated world.
