Jojopyun extends Movistar KOI contract through 2027

Movistar KOI has extended Joseph "Jojopyun" Pyun's contract for another year, keeping the Canadian mid laner with its League of Legends roster through the 2027 season. The organization announced the renewal on September 22, shortly after the team finished second in the LEC 2026 Summer Split.

Jojopyun's previous deal was due to expire after the 2026 season, making his future one of Movistar KOI's key roster decisions. The extension keeps him in Madrid for a third competitive season after he originally joined the organization at the end of 2024.

The renewal comes two days after Movistar KOI reached the LEC Summer Grand Final in Nice. The team fought through the lower bracket before losing 3-0 to G2 Esports in the final on September 20.

Movistar KOI's playoff run included a 3-2 victory over Team Vitality and a 3-1 win against Natus Vincere. It then swept Karmine Corp 3-0 to reach the final, completing a turnaround after entering the later stages of the bracket without a direct route to the title match.

Jojopyun remained the team's starting mid laner throughout the run. Movistar KOI confirmed his new deal with a short announcement stating that he will remain with the organization in 2027.

Jojopyun had been approaching the end of his existing contract, leaving Movistar KOI with a decision to make before the 2027 offseason. Sheep Esports reported that the organization made several offers during negotiations and did not seriously pursue another player for the mid lane position.

The outlet also reported that Jojopyun's new agreement will make him one of the three highest-paid players in the LEC. Movistar KOI has not publicly disclosed the financial terms of the extension. His renewal means the organization can enter its remaining 2026 commitments without an unresolved contract situation around one of its starting players.

Jojopyun joined Movistar KOI ahead of the 2025 season after leaving Cloud9 in North America. His first year in Europe included an LEC Spring title, with Movistar KOI defeating G2 Esports in the 2025 final.

The 21-year-old remained part of the same starting lineup for 2026 alongside Alex "Myrwn" Pastor, Javier "Elyoya" Batalla, David "Supa" Martínez and Álvaro "Alvaro" Fernández. Movistar KOI again reached an LEC final this summer, although G2 denied the team another championship.

Jojopyun is now one of the players already secured for Movistar KOI beyond the current season. Jungler Elyoya is under contract through 2028, while support Alvaro is signed through 2027.

Head coach Tomás "Melzhet" Campelos is also contracted through 2028. The futures of Myrwn and Supa remain less settled, leaving the top lane and AD carry positions as the main questions around the team's 2027 starting roster.

Movistar KOI still has the 2026 World Championship ahead before its season ends. Jojopyun's extension ensures that whatever happens internationally, the organization already has its mid lane position settled for next year.
