01Overview
Mafia III is an open-world action-adventure game developed by Hangar 13 and set in 1968 New Bordeaux, a fictional city inspired by New Orleans. Players control Vietnam veteran Lincoln Clay as he builds a criminal organization and seeks revenge against the Marcano crime family. Gameplay combines third-person shooting, melee combat, stealth and driving across the city. Missions can often be approached in different ways, allowing Lincoln to attack directly or quietly eliminate enemies from cover. Progression revolves around weakening rival rackets, taking over districts and assigning territory to Lincoln’s three underbosses. These choices can affect relationships within the organization and unlock different benefits. The late-1960s setting is reinforced by period vehicles, political themes and a licensed soundtrack featuring music from the era.
