Shanghai Will Host the Second Counter-Strike 2 Major of 2027

Shanghai will host the second Counter-Strike 2 Major of 2027, with Perfect World Esports confirming that Valve's championship tournament will return to the Chinese city three years after the organizer staged its first Major there.

The event is slated to run from November 22 to December 12 under Valve's established 2027 Major schedule and will close out the year's Major calendar. It also gives Perfect World a second opportunity to run one of Counter-Strike's biggest tournaments after the 2024 Shanghai Major became the first Major held in Asia.

Perfect World confirmed on September 15 that it will organize the Winter 2027 Major in Shanghai.

The announcement follows earlier reporting that Valve had awarded the second 2027 Major to Perfect World, with Shanghai already identified as the planned host city. Perfect World's confirmation now makes the return official.

The November 22 to December 12 window had already been set out in Valve's 2027 Major schedule, while January 2026 reporting identified Perfect World and Shanghai as the expected organizer and host city. Perfect World has not yet announced the venues that will be used in 2027, leaving the exact layout of the tournament to be detailed closer to the event.

Perfect World's previous Major took place in the same city in late 2024 and marked the first time a Counter-Strike Major had been held in Asia. That tournament ended with Team Spirit defeating FaZe in the grand final to win the organization's first Major title.

Perfect World also opened every stage of the event to a live audience. Earlier rounds were held at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center before the playoffs moved to the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center. The organizer highlighted that experience when announcing its return, describing Shanghai as an established home for major Counter-Strike competition in China.

Perfect World has continued hosting international tournaments in the city since then through the Counter-Strike Asia Championships, giving it an existing event operation to build on before the Major returns.

The Shanghai tournament will be the second of two Counter-Strike 2 Majors scheduled for 2027.

FiReSPORTS will host the first in Buenos Aires from May 31 to June 20, bringing a Major to Argentina for the first time. Perfect World will then take over for the final championship of the year in November and December.

Further details for Shanghai, including venues, participating teams, ticketing, and the final tournament format, have not yet been announced.

For now, Perfect World has confirmed the most important part of the plan: Counter-Strike's Winter 2027 Major is returning to Shanghai for the city's second Valve-backed championship.
