Steam Breaks All-Time Record With Over 43.5 Million Concurrent Users Online

October 14, 2026·3 min read

Steam reached a new all-time peak of 43.5 million concurrent users on October 11, 2026, surpassing its March record, with approximately 14.46 million users actively playing games.

Steam has set a new all-time concurrent user record, with 43,505,724 people connected to Valve's PC gaming platform simultaneously on October 11, 2026.

According to Steam, the milestone surpasses the previous record of 42,686,616 users, set in March 2026. Steam has now added more than 819,000 concurrent users to its peak in just seven months.

The record comes during a period of strong activity across Steam, including popular multiplayer games such as Counter-Strike 2, WARDOGS, and Valve's Deadlock.

Steam surpasses its March record by more than 819,000 users

Historical Steam statistics chart shows concurrent users over 48 hours in June 2015, with a peak of 10,052,802 users.

Steam's latest peak is 819,108 users higher than its previous record. That represents an increase of approximately 1.9% since March. The achievement continues a period of substantial growth for Valve's platform.

Steam passed 20 million concurrent users in March 2020, before reaching 30 million in October 2022. It then crossed 40 million in March 2025. The latest milestone shows that the platform's online audience has continued growing throughout 2026.

Valve's own statistics also recorded more than 43.5 million simultaneous users. Its reported figure was slightly lower than Steam's, but both sources confirm that the platform exceeded its previous record.

Around 14.46 million Steam users were in-game

Although Steam had more than 43.5 million users online, most were not actively playing a game. Around the time of the record, approximately 14.46 million users were in-game. That represents roughly one-third of the total online audience.

Steam's concurrent online figure includes anyone connected to the platform. Users may be browsing the store, downloading games, chatting with friends, or simply leaving the Steam client running. The in-game figure specifically measures users running games through Steam.

This distinction is important because the new record does not mean 43.5 million people were playing games simultaneously. It also does not represent Steam's total registered accounts or daily active users.

WARDOGS and Deadlock add to Steam's strong multiplayer activity

Steam's latest record comes as several major multiplayer games continue attracting large audiences. Counter-Strike 2 remains one of the platform's most-played games, regularly drawing more than one million concurrent players. Dota 2 and PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS also maintain substantial player populations.

Newer games have recorded impressive figures of their own. Bulkhead's multiplayer shooter WARDOGS reached an all-time peak of 428,666 concurrent players on September 13, following its Early Access launch earlier that month.

Valve's Deadlock also established a new record on October 9. The invite-only multiplayer game reached 262,145 concurrent players following the introduction of Solomon, a chess-themed hero. That milestone pushed Deadlock beyond Team Fortress 2's historical Steam peak of 253,997 players.

These records were reached on different dates and should not be treated as simultaneous contributions to Steam's October 11 peak. However, they highlight the audiences that established multiplayer games and newer releases continue attracting.

Steam's latest platform-wide record reflects that broader activity, with its total concurrent online audience reaching a new high before the end of 2026.
