Crimson Desert has finally fixed a small bug that had become more annoying over time. Patch 1.17 fixes an issue where the quick-slot system could replace finished food with the wrong item. This makes healing and using buffs more reliable during combat.
Players were frustrated because the issue often happened at the worst time. A prepared meal could run out during a boss fight. The shortcut could then switch to a weaker item or something the player did not want. That forced players back into the inventory when they were supposed to be watching the enemy.

The bug appeared after players consumed all of the food assigned to a quick slot. Instead of leaving the slot empty or waiting for a new choice, the game could pull another item from the inventory. That replacement was not always useful, which made the shortcut difficult to trust.
The problem became more noticeable in longer sessions because players had to keep correcting the same slot. Players could prepare their food before a tough fight and use the last meal. Then, the next button press might select a basic ingredient or weaker item they did not want to use.
Players still need to choose what they want in the slot, but the game should no longer make that decision for them. It is a simple change, yet it removes a surprising amount of unnecessary menu work.

Food can be important during harder battles because it gives players a quick way to recover or prepare without digging through several menus. When the shortcut changed on its own, that advantage disappeared. A planned heal could turn into a wasted input while the boss kept attacking.
That interruption was especially frustrating because it had nothing to do with skill or poor preparation. Players could enter a fight with the right items and still lose time fixing a problem caused by the interface. The bug made this simple feature less reliable than opening the inventory manually.
Players still need the right supplies, good timing, and enough space to use them safely. The quick slot should now work as expected. Players can focus on the fight instead of checking which item the game has selected.
Progress for the Desperate Rescue challenge has been corrected, while special headgear effects should now work properly. Pearl Abyss also addressed overlapping footstep sounds that could cause movement stutter.
Treasure chest icons should no longer appear for chests that cannot actually be obtained, and trade routes should display correctly again. Localization fixes are included too, making Patch 1.17 a wider cleanup rather than a single bug fix.
The update is available on Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and the Epic Games Store, with the Mac App Store version arriving later. For most players, the biggest improvement will be much simpler: pressing the food shortcut during a tough fight should finally give them the item they expected.
