Dead by Daylight Developer Apologizes After TheBurntPeanut Receives Free DLC

November 2, 2026·3 min read

Behaviour Interactive apologizes after TheBurntPeanut receives unapproved Dead by Daylight rewards during a livestream.

Behaviour Interactive has apologized after Twitch streamer TheBurntPeanut received free in-game content and currency during a Dead by Daylight livestream. In a statement released on November 1, 2026, the developer confirmed that a team member had granted the rewards without obtaining the required approvals.

The giveaway sparked criticism from players, particularly after the game's official Twitch account appeared to dismiss concerns raised during the broadcast. Behaviour has acknowledged that both the decision and the subsequent response were mishandled. The studio is now reviewing its internal procedures to prevent similar incidents.

The controversy began during an October 30 livestream when TheBurntPeanut discovered that additional Dead by Daylight content had been unlocked on his account.

The rewards reportedly included access to the game's DLC characters and perks. Behaviour later confirmed that the streamer had received in-game content and currency, although it did not provide a complete list of the rewards.

TheBurntPeanut joked about receiving special treatment as a streamer after discovering the unlocks. The decision drew criticism from community members who questioned why a popular creator had received free content while other streamers were still seeking recognition through the game's creator program.

Some players also raised concerns about the developer's association with TheBurntPeanut, citing previous controversial remarks attributed to the streamer. The situation escalated when a message appeared in the livestream chat under the official Dead by Daylight Twitch account.

"WE CAN TAKE THE HEAT! THEY ARE YOURS TO KEEP," the account wrote, according to a screenshot shared on Reddit. The response attracted further criticism from players who felt their concerns were being dismissed rather than addressed.

On November 1, Behaviour Interactive issued a statement through the official DbD Pulse account on X, acknowledging that the giveaway had bypassed its approval process. The developer explained that providing content to creators is not unusual. Such arrangements allow streamers who are discovering Dead by Daylight to explore its characters and other available features.

However, Behaviour confirmed that the decision involving TheBurntPeanut had not received the necessary approvals. The studio also addressed the employee's subsequent comments during the livestream, stating that their conduct did not reflect the game's core values.

Behaviour acknowledged that it should have investigated the concerns raised during the broadcast instead of dismissing them. The developer also expressed support for community members seeking consistent standards, regardless of a creator's popularity.

At the same time, Behaviour condemned the hostile reactions directed at players and staff. It specifically called out threats against employees and urged people to stop engaging with threatening posts.

Behaviour begins internal review but leaves several questions unanswered

Behaviour apologized to the Dead by Daylight community and confirmed that it had started reviewing its internal procedures. The review is intended to prevent similar situations involving unapproved content distribution and inappropriate responses from official accounts.

However, the developer has not announced specific changes to its creator policies or explained how future giveaways will be approved. Although the game's official Twitch account initially told TheBurntPeanut that he could keep the rewards, Behaviour's November 1 statement did not clarify whether that decision still stands.

Although individual employees have been named in online discussions, Behaviour's statement did not identify the staff member responsible or announce any disciplinary action. The company has not provided a timeline for completing its internal review.
