Destiny 2 Confirms Menagerie Return With Reprised Rewards

October 30, 2026·3 min read

Bungie confirms Menagerie's return to Destiny 2 with reprised rewards as part of a wider effort to restore vaulted campaigns, raids and activities.

Bungie has confirmed that Menagerie will return to Destiny 2 with reprised rewards as part of its upcoming content restoration project. The announcement came in the studio's October 29, 2026 community update, which outlined plans to restore several campaigns, raids, and activities previously removed from the game.

The six-player activity originally launched during Season of Opulence in June 2019 before being removed in November 2020. Bungie has now included Menagerie in its first planned wave of returning content, although the developer has not announced a release date or revealed which rewards will be available.

Bungie Head of Product Josh Deane confirmed Menagerie's return while discussing the studio's plans to restore older content. He acknowledged the years of community requests for the activity and said it would be included in the first phase of the unvaulting project.

Menagerie originally took place aboard Emperor Calus's Leviathan. Teams of six players completed a series of encounters before facing a final boss and collecting rewards.

One of its defining features was the Chalice of Opulence, which allowed players to influence their loot by combining different runes. The system made it possible to target specific weapons and armor instead of relying entirely on random drops.

Bungie has confirmed that the returning activity will feature reprised rewards. However, the studio has not identified which weapons or armor sets will return. It also remains unclear whether the original Chalice of Opulence system will be restored. Bungie has not detailed any changes to the encounters, difficulty options, or reward progression.

Four vaulted campaigns and their activities are also returning

Menagerie is part of Bungie's broader effort to restore older Destiny 2 content and make previously removed experiences available again. The first phase will focus on four campaigns: The Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind, and Forsaken. Bungie also plans to bring back their associated Strikes, raids, and raid lairs.

According to Deane, the restored content in this initial phase will be available to all players. The developer is also investigating additional content that could return alongside the initial release or in later updates. These possibilities include free-roam destinations, older seasonal activities, PvP maps, and updated weapons from legacy raids.

However, these additions are currently considered development goals rather than confirmed parts of the initial release.

Deane acknowledged that removing essential content through the Destiny Content Vault had damaged the relationship between Bungie and its community. The restoration project is intended to address those concerns while preserving more of the game's history.

Menagerie's release remains unconfirmed as development continues

Bungie's unvaulting project is currently in pre-production, with the team working to ensure that older content can be restored successfully. The studio expects this stage to continue until approximately January or February 2027. Once that work is complete, full production is estimated to take around 12 months.

These are development estimates rather than confirmed release dates. Bungie has not announced when Menagerie or the other restored activities will become playable.

The studio is also preparing additional updates about the future of the Destiny franchise. Its next major communication is planned for February 2027, with progress reports on the unvaulting project expected as development continues.
