Elden Ring Streamer Spends 24 Hours in Homemade Jail Until His Mom Beats Margit

October 15, 2026·3 min read

Elden Ring streamer Drake Cummings spent nearly 24 hours in a homemade jail until his mother defeated Margit after 240 in-game deaths.

Twitch streamer Drake Cummings spent nearly 24 hours inside a homemade jail cell while his mother attempted to defeat Margit, the Fell Omen, in Elden Ring. The challenge ended with his mother beating the boss after 240 in-game deaths, finally allowing him to leave the makeshift prison.

Cummings staged the unusual livestream on September 13, 2026, turning a viral social media question into a gaming challenge. He built a jail cell inside his streaming setup, handed his mother the controller and stayed behind bars while she worked through FromSoftware's action RPG.

The idea came from a viral question asking whether someone would rather spend three years in prison or remain locked up until their mother completed Elden Ring.

Cummings adapted the challenge by making Margit, one of the game's first major bosses, the condition for his release. His initial sentence was set at 10 hours, although viewers could extend his time inside the cell during the broadcast.

While his mother played, Cummings remained behind bars and offered advice to help her understand the game's combat and progression systems. Her task was to defeat Margit, who guards the approach to Stormveil Castle.

Cummings' mother reached Margit approximately nine hours into the livestream, but defeating the boss proved much harder than reaching him.

Margit is an early challenge in Elden Ring, with delayed attacks and combinations that can catch inexperienced players off guard. After several unsuccessful attempts, Cummings suggested that his mother explore other areas rather than continue fighting.

She followed his advice and spent the next several hours completing optional dungeons, defeating other bosses and improving her character's equipment. The detour allowed her to gain levels and prepare for another attempt at Stormveil Castle instead of repeatedly facing Margit with the same equipment.

Just before the 24-hour mark, Cummings' mother returned to Margit's arena for another attempt. This time, she successfully defeated the boss, bringing the livestream challenge to an end.

Her character had accumulated 240 deaths throughout the adventure. The victory meant Cummings could finally leave the homemade jail after spending nearly an entire day coaching his mother from behind bars.

What began as a 10-hour streaming stunt had turned into a much longer challenge, with the final victory coming only after his mother spent hours learning the game, exploring optional areas and upgrading her character.

Cummings later shared the full broadcast and highlights on Twitch, documenting the attempts that eventually secured his release.
