Lord of Mysteries launches in China on August 21

July 20, 2026·3 min read
Lord of Mysteries, the free-to-play dark fantasy MMORPG from SPARK NEXA, will launch in China on August 21. The game is based on the popular web novel by Cuttlefish That Loves Diving and is being built as a multi-platform RPG for PC, iOS and Android.

The pitch is already easy to understand for RPG fans. Lord of Mysteries mixes Bloodborne-style occult horror with a moody turn-based-adjacent fantasy pull that may appeal to players who liked Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s darker world and reactive combat rhythm.

Lord Of Mysteries Gets An August Date

SPARK NEXA confirmed the August 21 China launch after months of testing and pre-registration. The game had already crossed one million TapTap reservations earlier this year, showing strong interest before release.

A global version is also planned, with English, Japanese and Korean localization expected later in 2026. SPARK NEXA has not confirmed the final global launch date yet, so players outside China may still have to wait.

The Game Turns A Web Novel Into An MMO

Lord of Mysteries is set in a strange, Victorian-inspired world filled with occult rituals, secret societies, gods, monsters and hidden powers. Players become Beyonders, people who gain abilities by following supernatural Pathways and consuming potions.

That setup gives the game its main identity. Instead of standard fantasy classes, Lord of Mysteries uses Pathways tied to the source material. Early tests have shown options such as Seer, Apprentice, Spectator, Warrior, Bard and Mystery Pryer.

Combat Mixes Action And RPG Systems

The game is not a full Soulslike, even though its dark look may remind players of Bloodborne. Lord of Mysteries uses real-time action combat, bosses, quests, character progression and open-world MMO systems rather than FromSoftware-style level design.

The Clair Obscur comparison comes more from mood and structure than a direct match. Both games use a darker European-inspired fantasy look, strange supernatural rules and dramatic RPG combat, though Lord of Mysteries is built as an online free-to-play game rather than a premium single-player RPG.

UE5 Powers The Occult World

SPARK NEXA is building Lord of Mysteries in Unreal Engine 5, with Tingen City shown as one of the key locations. Official material has focused on gaslit streets, old buildings, ritual spaces, countryside areas and ancient ruins.

The developer is also pitching the game as more than combat. Earlier footage has shown character creation, open-world traversal, bosses, exploration and slower life-sim-style activities, giving players more ways to interact with the world.

Pre-registration Is Still Open

Lord of Mysteries is currently taking pre-registrations through Chinese storefronts ahead of its August 21 launch. The game is planned for PC, iOS and Android in China, with a global version expected later.

SPARK NEXA has not fully detailed the global monetization model or final overseas schedule yet. For now, players outside China can follow the game’s official channels and store listings while waiting for the confirmed international release date.
