Standing Stone Games has announced The Wolves of Mordor, the next expansion for The Lord of the Rings Online. The new adventure will take players into previously unexplored parts of Mordor when it launches in fall 2026.
The expansion explores Sauron’s earlier history as the Lord of Wolves. Players will face the Draugardh, a society of intelligent werewolves created to serve the Dark Lord.
The Wolves of Mordor takes place in the northeastern part of the Black Land. It adds three regions called Heledhris, Nan Ogol and Parth Rhavas, with the story beginning in Heledhris.
These areas will introduce Easterlings, Woses and other people who survived under Sauron’s rule. Scouts from Gondor, the Elves and the Dúnedain will also appear as players travel deeper into the region.
The Draugardh have their own society and ranks. Some move on four legs, while others stand upright like large humanoid creatures.
The expansion introduces Survival Instincts, a new progression system built around the dangers of Mordor. Players will unlock abilities by helping local groups, exploring, crafting and finding treasure.
The system includes Tactics, Lessons, Skill Sets and Enhancements that can improve damage, defence and healing. Unlocks are shared across every character on the same server.
Survival Instincts are mainly designed for the new regions. They give endgame players another way to grow without increasing the current level cap.
A new Neighbour system will let players invite characters from Middle-earth to visit their homes. Friendships can grow through conversations, gifts and special missions.
Stronger relationships will unlock personal scenes that reveal more about each visitor. The first neighbours will represent the four main Free Peoples of Middle-earth.
Early access to the feature will be included with expansion pre-orders. However, it will not remain exclusive to those players forever.
The Wolves of Mordor is planned for fall 2026 on PC. Standing Stone Games has not announced an exact release date, price or pre-order schedule.
The expansion will add new regions, enemies, stories and progression options without raising the level cap. More information is expected before launch.
