NRG Upsets MOUZ as StarSeries Fall 2026 Opens in Barcelona

NRG delivered the biggest surprise of StarLadder StarSeries Fall 2026's opening day, beating MOUZ 2-1 to move into the upper bracket semifinals in Barcelona.

Aurora also opened with a 2-0 win over Natus Vincere, while Vitality swept magic and FURIA recovered from losing the first map against MIBR to win 2-1. The results have already pushed MOUZ and NAVI into an elimination match after only one series at the eight-team, $500,000 Counter-Strike 2 event.

NRG reached the LAN through the North American Closed Qualifier and entered Barcelona against MOUZ, one of the four teams invited through the Global VRS standings. The difference in their routes to the event made the opening result one of the clearest upsets of the first round.

NRG took its own Cache pick 13-11 in a close opener before MOUZ responded with a much more comfortable 13-5 victory on Inferno. The deciding Dust2 again stayed competitive, but NRG closed the map 13-10 to secure the series.

The win moves NRG into an upper bracket meeting with Aurora, where the winner will remain unbeaten and move another step toward the upper bracket final. MOUZ instead drops straight into a match against NAVI where another loss means elimination.

Aurora joined NRG in the upper bracket after beating NAVI 2-0. The Turkish organization took Nuke 13-8 before following with a 13-7 victory on Mirage, denying NAVI a map in its opening series.

Vitality also avoided a third map against magic. Mirage ended 13-6 before Vitality closed Dust2 13-9, putting the team into an upper bracket semifinal against FURIA. Magic now has to beat MIBR to stay in the tournament.

FURIA had the most difficult route of the other first-round winners. MIBR took the Brazilian matchup's opening map 13-11 on Inferno, but FURIA answered with consecutive 13-6 wins on Nuke and Cache to complete the comeback. Those four results leave NRG, Aurora, Vitality, and FURIA on the upper side of the double-elimination bracket, while MOUZ, NAVI, magic, and MIBR have already lost their safety net.

The lower bracket immediately produces a high-profile elimination series between MOUZ and NAVI. Both entered StarSeries through direct VRS invitations, but one will finish the event after just two best-of-three matches. Magic and MIBR face the same situation in the other lower-bracket series.

NRG will face Aurora on the upper side, followed by FURIA against Vitality. StarSeries uses double elimination with best-of-three matches until the grand final, which switches to a best-of-five. The tournament concludes on September 20 in Barcelona.
