Ubisoft Project U Gameplay Screenshot Surfaces After Reported Cancellation
A reported gameplay screenshot from Ubisoft's Project U has surfaced following the co-op shooter's reported cancellation. The project was previously described as a large-scale PvE game built around teams working together against AI enemies.
A gameplay screenshot reportedly taken from Project U has surfaced online, providing a rare look at Ubisoft's cooperative shooter following its reported cancellation.
The image was shared by X user Kran and subsequently reported by Insider Gaming. Ubisoft has not commented on the screenshot, and it is unclear when during development the pictured build was created.
The leak shows a project Ubisoft kept mostly behind closed doors

Ubisoft publicly acknowledged Project U in September 2022, describing it as an early-development session-based co-op shooter where large numbers of players would work together against an overwhelming threat.
The publisher opened registrations for an initial PC closed test in several Western European countries and said feedback would be used to help steer development. Much of the project remained under NDA, leaving relatively little official gameplay material available outside the testing programme. Project U never received a full public gameplay reveal, commercial title or release date before it was reportedly cancelled.
An intro cinematic also leaked in 2025 and was later removed following a Ubisoft copyright claim, but the newly surfaced image reportedly comes directly from gameplay.
Project U was reportedly built around 40-player PvE sessions

Insider Gaming previously identified Project U as the project internally known as Pathfinder and reported that its core concept involved 40 players divided into ten teams of four.
Rather than fighting each other, the groups would face AI-controlled enemies while progressing through different sections of a large map. Enemy difficulty increased as players moved farther into the session, eventually pushing surviving teams toward a central area and a larger final challenge.
Insider Gaming reported in November 2024 that the project had returned to the drawing board earlier that year following problems with replayability. The cooperative PvE concept remained, while a smaller team explored a new direction for the project.
Ubisoft confirmed a wider wave of cancellations in 2026
Ubisoft announced a major organisational and portfolio reset in January 2026 that included the cancellation of six projects as the company revised its development roadmap. The publisher did not publicly name every affected game.
Insider Gaming later reported that Project Pathfinder, the internal project associated with Project U, was among those cancelled. The outlet said development had lasted around seven years and had repeatedly struggled with direction, navigation through the game's map and creating enough replayability around its core PvE structure.
Those details come from Insider Gaming's original reporting rather than an official Ubisoft account of why the project was reportedly cancelled. Ubisoft has never published a postmortem for Project U or formally detailed what its final version would have looked like.
The leaked screenshot therefore offers one of the few remaining glimpses of the shooter after its reported cancellation, with most of Project U's later development still undocumented publicly.
