Resident Evil 1 remake reportedly enters full production
July 16, 2026·3 min read
A new remake of the original Resident Evil is reportedly now in full production at Capcom, according to known series leaker Dusk Golem. The project has not been announced by Capcom, and there is no confirmed title, platform list or release window.
The update gives fans a better idea of where the rumored remake sits in Capcom’s wider Resident Evil plans. The game is still believed to be years away, with other Resident Evil projects expected to arrive first.
Dusk Golem gives a progress update
Dusk Golem claims that the Resident Evil 1 remake has moved into full production. That means the project has gone beyond early planning, though it does not mean release is close. The leaker also warned that the game is still far out.
Capcom has not confirmed the remake publicly, so the report should still be treated as unannounced until the publisher shares official details.

Capcom has not confirmed the remake
Capcom has confirmed Resident Evil Requiem and Resident Evil Veronica, but it has not announced a new remake of Resident Evil 1. The company has also not shared a public roadmap for future remakes beyond its confirmed projects.
That leaves the Resident Evil 1 remake in rumor territory for now. Fans have been expecting Capcom to revisit more older entries after the success of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 remakes, but the first game has a different history.
Resident Evil 1 has already been remade once
The original Resident Evil launched in 1996 and helped define survival horror. Capcom then remade it for GameCube in 2002, rebuilding the game with new visuals, expanded areas, tougher puzzles and added story material.
That 2002 remake was later remastered for modern platforms and is still widely available. Because of that, a new Resident Evil 1 remake would not be a simple update of the 1996 game. It would likely need to rethink the Spencer Mansion again for a modern audience.
Other Resident Evil projects may come first
The reported timing suggests Capcom is not rushing the remake out. Resident Evil Veronica is already planned as the next remake project, and Dusk Golem has also linked Capcom to other future Resident Evil work.
If the Resident Evil 1 remake is still years away, it may arrive after Veronica and other planned releases. That would fit Capcom’s recent approach, where new mainline entries and remakes take turns keeping the series active
Fans are waiting for Capcom’s official word
Resident Evil 1 is one of the series’ most important games. A full modern remake could bring the Spencer Mansion to players who know the franchise mainly through Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 4 Remake and the newer first-person entries.
For now, there is no official release date or announcement trailer. The confirmed status is simple: Capcom has not announced a Resident Evil 1 remake, but the latest leak claims the project is now in full production and still years away from release.
