Hundreds of unused voice lines have been uncovered from Resident Evil 4 Remake, including a Merchant reference to the Duke from Resident Evil Village that was recorded but removed before release.
Modder Keff0 found 671 finished voice lines on the PS5 launch disc, complete with Capcom's original subtitles. The material includes dialogue for Leon, Ashley, Luis, and the Merchant, but is absent from the PC release.

Keff0 initially found 511 unused lines belonging to Leon, Ashley, and Luis before expanding the collection to 671 after examining additional dialogue.
The earlier batch included 220 lines for Leon, 176 for Ashley, and 115 for Luis. Not every recording represents a deleted scene or full conversation. Some are alternate reactions, additional Shooting Gallery dialogue, Ashley calling for Leon, and variations of lines used elsewhere in the game.
Keff0 later compiled more than 30 minutes of the cut material. According to the modder, the audio comes directly from the PS5 launch disc and the subtitles shown alongside it are Capcom's own text rather than transcriptions.

One of the most notable unused recordings belongs to the Merchant and references the Duke, the trader Ethan Winters encounters in Resident Evil Village.
In the cut line, the Merchant says: "Ah, I see you're no stranger to villages. The Duke? Lad shows promise."
Had the dialogue remained in the remake, the Merchant would have directly referenced the Duke from Resident Evil Village. Village already contains its own reference in the opposite direction, with the Duke repeating the Merchant's famous "What're ya buyin'?" phrase and calling it something an old friend used to say.
The recording shows that Capcom created dialogue connecting the two characters during development. Because it was removed before release, however, the exchange is not part of the finished game's story, and Capcom has not explained why it was cut.
The voice-line discovery follows another look at unused Merchant content found in the remake.
Keff0 found that the game still contains a Merchant death state, a collapse animation, save data capable of recording whether an individual shopkeeper is gone, and four unused recordings associated with threatening and killing him. The original trigger that would have activated the system is no longer present.
The modder has since restored the feature through a PC mod, adding new activation logic while using animations, dialogue, and other systems still left in the game. The restoration is a community mod rather than functionality available in the released version of Resident Evil 4 Remake.
