Silent Hill 2 update fixes PS5 Pro issues but breaks Performance Mode
August 10, 2026·2 min read
Silent Hill 2 Patch 1.07 improves PS5 Pro visuals but introduces crushed blacks and shadow issues in Performance Mode.
Silent Hill 2 has received Patch 1.07 on PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro, but the update has created a new visual problem in Performance Mode. Konami has already acknowledged the issue and is investigating a fix.
The patch was meant to improve performance and image quality after months of complaints about the remake on PS5 Pro. While some long-running problems have improved, players are now reporting extremely dark shadows that can hide parts of the environment.
Patch 1.07 improves several visual problems

Konami released Patch 1.07 on August 6, with improvements for both Performance and Quality modes. The update also improves fog, fixes visual glitches on several assets, and reduces graphical problems while moving.
PS5 Pro players have also seen improvements to the shimmering that previously affected surfaces and scenery. The image now looks cleaner than it did before, especially in areas that had caused problems since the console launched.
Performance Mode now has crushed blacks
The biggest new problem appears in Performance Mode on both PS5 and PS5 Pro. Dark areas can become heavily blackened, causing shadow detail and parts of the environment to disappear.
Players have shared examples of vegetation and other objects being covered by dark shadows after installing the patch. Shadow smearing and other lighting problems are also affecting some scenes, though the severity can vary depending on the area and display setup.

Quality Mode avoids the worst problem

Quality Mode does not appear to suffer from the same severe black crush seen in Performance Mode. Players can switch to Quality Mode to avoid the worst of the issue, but they will have to accept a lower frame rate.
That leaves PS5 Pro owners with another compromise after waiting for improvements to the remake. Patch 1.07 solves some earlier visual problems, but the new lighting issue makes Performance Mode a poor option until another fix arrives.
Konami is working on another fix
Konami says it is aware of the problems affecting Performance Mode on both PS5 models. The company is investigating possible solutions and says more information will be shared when available.
No release date has been announced for another patch. Silent Hill 2 players using Performance Mode may want to wait for Konami’s next update or use Quality Mode while the new visual problems are being investigated.
